markings on merc. labbed props ?
How can you tell if a prop is labbed from merc. ? does it have a certain finish or stamped marking and were is it located ?
|
There should be a stamping on the top of the hub housing, on the aft end were the prop nut is installed.

The stampings are the ultimate way to tell. The stampings are also a code. Trained eyes can also tell simply by the finish. However, Merc originally Labbed doesn't mean currently Merc spec.
By the way, the stampings are done by hand, not cast in and vary in information and quantity |
what do the stampings look like ?
|
A series of numbers and letters hand stamped on top of the hub housing!

I bought a brand new 28p merc labbed prop and a demo , should both of these be labbed the same or does merc change their specs every so often ? just wanted to be sure I have a matching pair.
|
the demo was a new prop taken out of the box by the dealer for someone to try.

Merc Demo props are blue.
There is a standard Lad recipe developed for Bravo 1 props back in the 1994 ish time frame. Standard templates are still used and modified. If you order a Labbed propeller from your Mecury dealer, you will get the standard Lab. Otherwise you need to contact a facility like BBLADES to obtain custom specs. Are there stampings on the propellers? |
yes there are stampings on the props .
