Rev 4 Trial Props

Hi,

Anyone know where I can get a Rev 4 prop to trial. Doesn't look like anybody has them to trial and I don't want to waste money on a prop I might not be able to use.

awsomethunder 05-01-2007 05:05 PM

call brett at bblades.he sent 1 out for me tues, should have it for the weekend to try and he was great to deal with

Shooter 05-01-2007 05:25 PM

I'll get it after you. what are you trying it on?

awsomethunder 05-02-2007 11:32 AM

25 ft active thunder 454 mag

Shooter 05-02-2007 12:39 PM

post yor results - are you trying the 23? I have a 26 Sonic 496HO with a labbed 24 B1 now.

Fast Forward 05-07-2007 08:44 PM

I'd be interested in hearing the results as well.

ChristianGott 05-07-2007 08:51 PM

i'm not sure the revo 4 is the prop for the job...it's more of an o/b or smallblock design...i'd try the bravo route because of the big block torque...i run 23 revo's, should have gone
21's...a great match for my 350 mags..

Fast Forward 05-07-2007 08:57 PM

I'm running a 454 mag/Bravo 1 and was told I may want to try it. Never relly looked into it much. Are they a smaller dia.??

awsomethunder 05-08-2007 08:10 AM

well i got rained out this past weekend.i will try during the week and post the results.using a 23 mirage plus now

Rev4 works good on deep drives like baja set ups, I was told. art

StillHaulin@63 05-08-2007 11:10 AM

I tested a Rev/4 23p on my Baja 23' hull and came to the conclusion that the Bravo/1
provided a more "controlled & responsive" ride than the Rev/4.

The Bravo/1 has a larger diameter, and less rake than the Rev/4. These differences were most noticable with throttle ressponse and hull attitude. Although I don't get a lot of WOT time offshore, the Rev/4 made chime walking a whole lot "easier" when running behind the breakwater.

bbladesprops 05-08-2007 02:56 PM

We still find the Revolution 4 propellers out perform the Bravo 1 props in stock configuration on most Baja hulls.

Fast Forward 05-08-2007 09:20 PM

BB so what about the Rev on a 26 Powerquest. Tried a labbed 22p Bravo 1 4 blade and the boat just didn't handle as well as the 23p Mirage Plus.

bbladesprops 05-10-2007 09:59 AM

The Rev's should be better than the B1's. We have them to test with if you are interested.

Shooter 05-10-2007 12:43 PM

have the 23 back in house yet?

Fast Forward 05-10-2007 04:44 PM

So if I'm running a 23 Mirage Plus should I drop down to a 21 in the Rev??? What Can I expect out of this prop. The PQ didn't much like the labbed 22 Bravo 1.

AIR TIME 05-13-2007 10:05 PM

talk to brett I would think a 23 rev

awsomethunder 05-14-2007 07:36 AM

the 23 revo is headed back to brett this morning.here are my results.was running 23 mirage at 67 mph at 5100 rpm.could only pull 47-4800 rpm with the revo and 63-64 mph.the boat did handle alot better and cruise mph picked up 4 mph.i had alot of issues with the bow bouncing up/down.the revo took most of that away.maybe a labbed 23 revo or 22 b1 maybe the ticket.brett i will contact you later today to discuss my test.everyboat is different, this prop may work better on another boat than mine.this is why we use "test" programs

Shooter 05-14-2007 02:45 PM

I bought a Rev 4 23 on ebay. It was a good deal so if I don't need it I can flip it.

bbladesprops 05-14-2007 03:51 PM

awesome,

Your slip dropped 1.5%. This is good. However, Labbing the propeller will only net 150-200 rpm in order to maintain that number. This means the top speed of the M+ will most likely not be bettered. If cruise is the most important, the Rev is the answer. Otherwise the Mirage Plus will be tough to beat.

Fast Forward 05-15-2007 06:00 PM

Shooter, I was watching that prop as well. But decided the Mirage Plus is still the best for my boat. Other than I wonder how a Hydromtice 3 blade would do????

Shooter 05-15-2007 08:35 PM

Hey,

I have a basically new hydromotive Quad-IV 23 for sale in the swap section...

I was waiting to get the trial 23 rev 4 from bblades but after the minor rental charge and shipping it was just as easy to get the ebay prop. I'll post the results.

BTW - I can't see a 3 blade working at all on my Sonic. It would take a year to get out of the hole.

Shooter 05-18-2007 04:22 PM

Received my Rev 4 today. Prop seems to have more cup, larger blade surface, but smaller diameter that my Labbed Bravo 1. It has a Flo-Torq hub - YIKES! - should I be worried about this? I have never had a prop with one. It also has the ventalation system on it. I wonder it that would be of use - I though this was for boats with smaller power. Lastly it does not "flare" at the end, what purpose does this provide?

I am going to try tommorrow, unfortunately it's family boat day and will not get to run it at the stops and do a true test. But I can get a good feel.

If I was to lab this prop, what is generally done, just thinning?

ragtop409 05-18-2007 09:03 PM

I have had every prop known to man on my 23 nova spyder with its tired 454 in it and I like the 23 rev 4 the best great mid pull. SHOOTER was gona tell ya I would let you try it if you wanted but it looks like I am a couple days late. Rag's

Fast Forward 05-19-2007 04:53 AM

Shooter, What kind of power are you running in the Sonic?
I have no issues with the PQ coming out of the hole. Let me know what your thoughts are with the 23 Rev. Also what do you want for the Hydro?

Shooter 05-19-2007 11:16 AM

I have a 496magHO right now. I will be going the Raylar route when rebuild time comes. I'm taking it out today, little choppy but the family is with me so I'll have them and 1/2 tank in the boat. I'll post my initial impressions.

I was asking 250.00 for the Hydro. I'll, pay shipping. It's basically new, was used about 5 or 6 times for testing and put on the shelf.

Fast Forward 05-20-2007 06:41 AM

Shooter, I thought you had a 3 blade Hydro. Don't think I spin the 4blade. But let me know the results on the Rev.

Shooter 05-20-2007 08:40 AM

so not the best conditions to test, wind was huffing 15-20 NE on the Gulf and air temp about 86-87 so accurate speed runs will have to wait but...

1st off the boat came on plane way quicker than my labbed B1 - probably due to the cup. The nose did not do the moon shot it usually does coming on plane. I'm puzzled that the people that labbed this prop took all cup out of the B1. I have never seen that.

Did not seem to "muscle" the boat around as much most likely to less diameter.

Just about completely got rid of the tendency of this boat to porpoise. Did not have to run the tab I ususally do, even in the 3' chop I was in. In fact I had a much greater range of drive trim without the bounce.

Looks like my mid-range cruise is about 5mph faster at similar rpm.

My only concern is the top end might be there but bblades says that itshould be faster than the B1.

I wouild be interested that after labbing the rev 4 what I would gain vs. lose based on these intial results.

Fast Forward 05-20-2007 09:01 AM

Keep us updated. It sounds like that maybe the prop I need. However I have no issues with hole shots or any other ill manners. Just would like to see a better cruise speed without top end sacrifice. I know can't have it all.... But maybe I can???
