Prop help

I have a 99 Checkmate ZT280 with a 500 efi. I bought the boat with a 24 bravo 1 that had some work done to it. I am not sure what was done to it and neither is the previous owner. On a cool day I can spin the prop right up to the REV limiter at 5250. The best I have seen with the prop is 71 gps at 5150-5200. I can spin it all day long no matter the conditions at 5100-5150 at 68-69 gps. I like the way the boat handles with this prop.

I have tired a 24 stock hydromotive and I did not like that prop, no speed gain and seem to have a lot of slip. I could get the same 68-69 out of it. Just for giggles I tired a 30 bravo labbed by velocity and was able to spin it 4800 and get about 70-71 gps, this was on a cool day. It came on plane good but I lost alot of acceleration in the mid range.

What are my options? Can I do anything to the 30 lab to make it work? What prop do you recommend. I am thinking a bravo 1 26 lab???

Thanks,

MM

What was the WOT RPM for the stock 24P Hydromotive at the 68-69 MPH?

I can't remember exactly I tested it early last summer. If I remember correctly it was at 4900-5000. I think it was closer to 5000.

I like the Bravo 1 propeller too. I also think you are correct in assuming the 26 in Labbed configuration. It may be a 28 though since we have 2 largely different propellers with a small 300 rpm difference. We should test a box stock propeller. We would do the Labbing a little different than a standard Lab.

Your running OK as far as your efficiency so I believe the Labbing would take for you quite well. Your tach may be slightly off as the rev limiter on these engines is 5400. This will change your slip% from what you are thinking but keeps it in the ball park. (as long as you have a 1.5:1 g.r.)

I have a 1.50:1 GR. What kind of speed do you think I will pick up going to a 26 lab?

0-8......... LOL

We have seen it all in those ranges.

If the 24 was a "standard" Lab, you will see in the 2-4ish range. I'd like to see the 24 first if possible.

Thanks, Brett
