Revolution 4 vs Bravo 1

I tried a Bravo 1 on my boat(Pantera 24) last year and although I loved the cruise at high speeds it threw the boat around and needed A LOT of trim.

After contemplating getting it tweaked I decided that I didn't want to take the chance and the Bravo probably wasn't right for my boat.

I've been reading about the Revolution 4 and wondering if this prop may work better. Smaller diameter may not "muscle" the boat around as much and more rake than the Bravo may give it better bow lift with less trim.

I know the answer is always you don't know until you try but there aren't alot of used Revs out there. Just looking for some comparisons to the Bravo.

BTW I am running a Mirage 25 at 5200 rpm and 75-76 mph. But the cruise SUCKS!

We can loan you a 25 Rev 4 if you like.

$20 plus shipping.

Brett, I would be interested in that! How does it work? Should I just call you tomorrow?

bbladesprops 06-04-2007 07:06 PM

Yes, give us a call.

Brett,

Any chance you have two Rev 4's as part of your loaner program? My situation is much like onesickpantera. I have a 28 Active Thunder (single 500hp efi/Bravo I w/1.50) running a stock 24 pitch Bravo I. At lower rpm's/speeds and little trim (4 or 5 on my bluewater indicator) the steering wants to take a hard left. At higher rpm's, I have the trim the boat out to 8 or 9 for max speed (68mph) and max rpm (5000-5100). As you can see, my slip isn't bad (10-11%), however I could use some more rpm's. And of course more speed is always a good thing. What's your thoughts? Is it worth trying a Rev 4?

We paid the $20 shipping for a loan set of Rev 4's and fell in love with these props! After a few days we sent them back and bought a pair. Our boat has never responded so well.

The Rev 4s still only available up to 25p? With the "almost" straight trailing edge they look like they fit somewhere between a B1/Q-IV-X and a Q-IV.
I'd love to hear from the pros a "technical" (but simple) comparison between these four props...
B1 vs Q-IV-X
Rev4 vs Q-IV

I was told the Rev4 has more rake than a B1 so they lift the bow better than a B1.

Let us know how it works.
A stock B1 does require a lot of trim on our boats.
BBlades modified my B1 so that I did not have to trim as high. Since the mods, I have yet to find a 4 blade that will push my boat faster than a B1.
I wish Merc made a 27p Rev 4.

Will definitely post results. Suppose to be a nice weekend! :D

I found my Turbo 3-blade that revved a little higher than my Mirage that I plan on testing as well.

My friend had a 24 Pantera and the Hydro was the best prop for it - in fact I still have that prop in the swap section. He soon upgraded the motor.

What Hydro? I tried a QIV and it worked okay. Not nearly enough bow lift though.

I know the X is the bow lifter but it was a used prop that I tried.

So how did your testing go?
Did you try a Rev 4?

onesickpantera 06-11-2007 10:12 AM

Well I got to try the Rev 4 this weekend and my it was much better than a Bravo on my boat. Ran looser than a Bravo, much better bow lift and didn't lug the rpms down as much. I was actually surprised that I was able to pull the rpm I did with the prop. Very little slip too!

Pat McPherson 06-11-2007 11:06 AM

The Rev 4 seems to work well for ya.
Only 1-2mph slower than a 3 blade Mirage is really good.
I ran a 27p Turbo Fusion 4 last year which has a smaller dia than a B1 like the Rev 4. It was 2+ mph slower than my labbed B1 though. Stock vs. stock they may have been the same.
Brett did tell me he's seen that the Turbo F4 is 1-2mph slower than the Merc Rev 4.
I guess the Rev 4 is a real good 4 blade design for our old school hulls. Too bad they don't make a 27p...

Yeah for a box stock prop I was impressed. Prop was very stable and carried the bow well. I think I'll grab the Rev 4 for the bigger lakes and keep the Mirage for the smaller lakes where I do mostly WFO blasts.

Hopefully they will make bigger sizes down the road.

No, on my boat the Rev 4 has more bow lift than the Bravo and the Bravo more than the QIV. I never tried a QIVX. The Rev 4 was also a little "looser" probably because of the smaller diameter and it didn't require a lot of trim.

IMO, the REV4 is the closest to a "4 blade Mirage" prop I have tried.

I have LH/RH QIV-X 25's I got from Handfulz28 if you were interested?

Thanks. I might take you up on that RH prop!

(This is what Mike did for me but I liked them so much he let me buy them from him, however I would not sell them or at least not seperate if it came down to it..)

No problem I totally understand it would be for testing only and I appreciate the offer!

Well it's not like they're irreplaceable :D I guess they're working alright...:D
