Repower Complete: Need Prop Help from the Pros (Formula 242LS)
I picked up my 1990 Formula 242LS over the Memorial Day weekend.
Old set-up was 454MAG (365HP) turning a 23P Mirage (non-plus) at 4600RPM and 54-55MPH on GPS on a good day. Drive is a 1.5 Bravo One. New set-up is 454 bored 0.060 (496ci) with 612HP at 5700RPM on the dyno. I ran it with my 23P Mirage just to get out on the lake and saw 65MPH at 5500RPM at about 2/3 throttle and little trim. If I gave it much more throttle, I was going to be on rev limiter (6000RPM). My question is what prop to put on it and what might I expect for performance? I want good cruising speed and top end (of course). I also want to protect my drive as much as possible-- I know no straight arm holeshots and keep it in the water! Any help is appreciated. |
I owuld recommend you run Bravo I propeller for starters. Baseline some props and then go from there. You have added a bit more power so the lift will be different now so the props may be as well. If you would like to do some testing we have the Bravo I props available thru our Prop Testing Program.
I am thinking of 26P - 28P Bravo I props for starters. Julie |
ditto,
and definately try the Mirage Plus props in 25. If you really love them and are high in the R range, We can make a screamin set of Labbed 27,s for you. Your boat was a 3 blade lover. However your numbers aren't great but that is non + and non Labbed. |
I think I'll start with the 26P Bravo I although the idea of a labbed 3-blade is intriguing too. I would just be concerned about getting a large pitch 3-blade out of the hole. For some reason, my boat always seems to have 5 or 6 passengers on it.
