Lost in prop land
Deal is 04 27ft Fever turning a 28pitch bravo to 5100RPM using a 1.65 drive and only running 60mph. Speed is GPS and I have checked it by handheld. Thats like 27% prop slip? Any help would be great. And 496HO if that makes any difference.

prop could be out of wack.
a 28 on a 1:50 std length drive behind a hp 500 at 5200 ran 84 mph. this was on a 27 kryptonite single step. 5000 lbs. f 1 boat |
Prop is perfect, I checked it first
|
27 % slip seems to indicate something out of whack. i would have prop checked by a second source.12- 15% is normal for a 4 bld sometimes less.
|
Actually with that propeller you are closer to 25% slip if the prop is stock. Has the propeller ever been repaired?
Before I get started, I know these hull have been around the block many times. Most run in the 12% (on Average Labbed prop range). I've had a few that are really tough to dial. Check the bottom. Make sure it is true. CG, drive height, what are we missing? |
Thanks for the replies, I have check the bottom with a 4ft strait edge and found that its pretty tight to the bottom maybe a 1/16 gap in a couple spots at most so is that acceptable? When checking CG I believe you are talking about center of gravity I know how to check it on an airplane but have no idea how to on a boat. Last, when I measure my X dimension is it from center of prop shaft to pad bottom?
Thanks in advance......J |
And the prop has the vent holes in it and looks perfect with no dings what so ever and the local prop guys say its fine. I dont know if its ever been repaired or not it came with the boat

somethings causing 25% slip. try another prop just for kicks. see if it makes a difference.

Do you have drive showers? I would think that potentially the cup may have been washed out of the
28P, possibly. Addtionally check you drive heigth may be condusive to a 5B. Julie |
This weekend I have a 26P bravo, 25 QIV, 24P Mach. Which one should I spin first?
Julie, I dont have a drive shower and I will measure my drive height this weekend from prop shaft center to keel. |
