Need some help getting the right prop setup on my new boat.

Hello, I have just purchased a 01 24'4 VIP VINDICATOR, Its powered by a 7.4 MPI, came with a 21" mirage plus, with this prop I am running 4100-4300 rpm@WOT and about 53-56mph(depending on trim and water conditions) on the gps. I traded for a 23" mirage, RPM stayed basically the same, but top speed dropped to around 47-50 mph. Neither prop has any toruble getting the boat on plane, even with full gas, and riders. Anyone have any suggestions of how to help gain some top end speed? I am still pretty new to all of this, so any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Johnny

Johnny,

What outdrive and gear ratio do you have?

Good speaking with you Johnny. Once you verify the data we should be able to take a step forward.

OK, The drive is a Bravo 1, 1:5 gear ratio(newly rebuilt according to the mechanic), I ran it again today, with the 23" mirage prop,(since The 21" mirage plus is MIA) I got 3950 max on the RPM gauge, and gps speed of 45.9mph.

It is obvious that the 23P is to tall for your application. You need to run at 4200-4600 at WOT so you really need to ruan at the minimum a 21P Mirage Plus , or a labbed 21P Mirage Plus or a stock 19P Mirage Plus...just to keep your motor happy and healthy.
