BBlades Maximus 32P 5 Blades on the way...

After speaking with Brett, I have decided to try out the BBlades Maximus 32P 5 Blade modified props. Based on our conversation, it should pick up 4-5mph in the midrange cruising area and hopefully get at least 2mph consistently on top end.

I have some decent numbers with the box stock Bravo I 32P, so I am anxious to try out the new Maximus props.

I will post the results once the props arrive.

It will be interesting to see what speeds you pick up over a stock Bravo. Are the Maximus' going to be stock also? I have heard the Maximus needs to be labbed to be efficient. I didn't get to try one, so I'll be interested in your results.

From what Brett and I discussed, the stock Maximus 32P would probably cost me 400-500rpms which in turn would reduce my top end by ~1-2mph.

He suggested having them labbed and the cutting down the diffuser ring to bring the rpms back up on top, so that is what I decided to go with.

The 3 week lead time is going to be tough! :D

We'll get them done and to you ASAP.

By the way, my 10 year old son loves your avatar. He told me all about that car and what it is capable of. I'm so proud.

I would think you would drop down in pitch to go with the 5 blades? Would doing the work to the Maximus 32p loose some efficiency[prop slip] compared to going with a stock set of Maximus 30P?

I went from a labbed 28 b1 to a...... labbed(merc) 26 max 5 blade. Gained 5 mph cruising at the same rpm. lost 1 mph on the top end. same day testing, same weight, same water conditions, same driver, same tabs/drive position. Just be carefull, they have a lot of BITE so your drive might not be very happy if you WOT it without the boat up on plane.

Interesting. You lost 1mph by decreasing the pitch and labbing.

Thanks for the warning. I normally just increase the throttles to around 3000rpms until the boat gets on plane, then begin to increase.

Brett told me the stock 32P B1 is equivalent to a Maximus 30P.

I'm not sure about the slip, but I'm sure labbing increases the slip.

VegasHallett 08-09-2007 03:45 PM

SAme here. 3000 till boat on plane. the 5 blade has so much bite the slip % went way down. Not sure off hand what it was. something like 15%.

My cruz speed is ok with me.3500 is 61 MPH.Most of the time I run at 3200 anyway.I just dont want to hurt top end or atleast maybe pick up some?

In my experiance with the 4 blade 32's and then going to 5 blade maximus was the 30's need to be 28's.

DEFYN GRAVITY 08-09-2007 05:44 PM

Sorry, I just found your question, Running 5-blades 32" MAX's. They have been cut down, still not enough though.

32" stock, 4600 RPM, 86-87 MPH
32" labbed, 5000 RPM, 91 MPH

Have not had any more work on them lately. still have 400 RPM left in the box. I will buy a new set of 30" 5-blades or 31" and have them labbed. I have always felt that it is a 95 MPH boat with the correct set-up. It will be next spring before I can try a new set of props!!! Robbie

Last year on my single engine v I usually ran a 30 labbed at 6000 or a 32 labbed at 5600 to 5700 depending on load in boat,I tried a 28 maximus (not sure if it was modified or not but if it was it wasn't modified much),my cruise rpm's dropped to less then what they were with the 32 pitch and my top end rpm's were between 5600 to 5700 so I agree completely with you. If someone buys the same pitch maximus to replace their 4 blade bravo its going to need to be cut waaaay down to ever pull the same rpm's,Smitty

my slip usually runs around 18-20 plus % at wot, with the maximus it was less then 10%

CNC 09-26-2007 09:04 AM

Smitty,
I wonder how your setup this year would handle the Maximus? or are done trying them again?

My prop C/L is too deep,my boat bow steered and tq rolled awful with one, right before I sheared off a billet prop shaft from the reduced slip and extra load,I'm sticking with 4 blades for now,Smitty
