Need Advice

Have a 2004 38ft Lightning, 525 stag, xr drives, 32 bravo prop, have never hit rev limiter can not break 4800 rpms. In destin could not break 75mph w low fuel, full water tank and 6 people, above 93 deg. Have about 400 hrs on boat. Mechanic said he thought boat felt over proped for this weather when he drove it. Any Advice? Before have hit about 87-88 but lately seems hard to break 80 and rpms not above 4800.

Your problem is the RPM is to low at the 4800. The 525 needs to run at 5300-5400 RPM. At 4800 you are not even in the power band of the motor lugging at 4800. You lost so much speed that I really think you have some other issues going on with the motors.....you have 400 hours on the boat, does this mean your motors have 400 hours on them. If so I would recommend that you have your motors looked at.

I agree the motors need to have some diagnostics done with 400 hrs. and a loss of 7-10 mph.

However, the motors can run at 4800 without harm. The recomended range is 4800-5200 with a 5400 limiter.

We like to prop in the 5000-5300 range depending on the owners goals.

4800 at full throttle will in fact lug the engines, which is not good for them

what gear ratio are your drives.
