Reasonable Slip #?
I just figured out my prop slip and the average number was 11%. On one of my passes it was as low as 9% but I had a healthy tail wind and that gave me a little extra top end on the GPS.
At WOT My Rpms are 4900. Should I be satisfied with a consistant 11% or would labbing give me a little more performance? I'm not really sure what sort of slip is expected with a 36' V bottom. I also thought about changing flame arresters to pick up 150 rpm's. Any Thoughts? |
If it matters the specs are. 36' Apache (heavy as hell). Twin 502 mpi's (415 hp at prop). Bravo one drives (1:5) Currently spinning non-labbed 24 pitch 4 blade bravo one props. Top end on Gps is a consistant 66.2mph and I got one pass of 67.2mph. WOT rpm is 4900rpms.
Overall performance is more important than top end because all of our boating includes our 17 month old son. I appreciate the input!! |
Not an expert, I am still learning ,but that is pretty good numbers, 11% is great, again not a expert about the labbing, but it could only help..

Your running great!
Because you are running as well as you are, Labbing your propellers could enhance the top end. You are in the right relm because you only want to gain a couple hundred rpm, 100-200. You are set to gain 1-3 mph on the top but may lose 1-2 in the middle. Decide the ultimate desire and we can help you from there. Brett |
Hey thanks,
I plan on doing something over the winter. I am curious about going to a 5 blade Maximus. I have read someone claiming that it really helped their cruise speed increase by about 8-10mph and didn't hurt top end too much. Their application was a stepped bottom t-Gun so obviously a bit different from my straight V. Top end isn't as important as cruise for us, if I could add a little speed in the 3,000-3800 RPM range that would be great. Sounds like it boils down to cruise or top end with respect to the ultimate goal, I appreciate the input. |
talk to bblades bret, I think your stock drive height is to low for 5 blades you might want to try a mirage plus 3 and rev 4 both 25s from bblades they have exchange policy it cost like 50 bucks a prop or maybe set to try thats what Iam doing this spring. ps the 5 blades are good for cuising speed over the 3 and 4 put are harder on the B1 drive. so you could try the 2 sets above stock compare to the b1s. I know deep drives on straight v hulls like the rev 4s ask brett he will fill you in because it might be on singles too not twins but hes the best so call him.:D art
