Maximus 5 prop Formula 271 496 HO
We have a Formula 271 year 2004
We want more acceleration (for skiing, wakeboarding) and we hope the same end-speed. We want to buy a Maximus 5 prop. Can someone tell us what Pitch and Diameter we need for a Formula 271 with a 496 HO to obtain the above goals? with and without the Lab Finish? |
If your running a 4 blade bravo the general concensus is to drop 2 pitch sizes at the same diameter. EX: 26 bravo down to a 24 maximus....but I didn't think they made anything smaller than a 28????

I think 271's use a different gearset in the outdrives. I think 1.65 so I think a lot of those boats are using 26" and 28" wheels. Might be wrong, but check your gear ratio. Should be stamped on the outdrive somewhere.
I agree,my old 312 came with 1.65's. But witha 496 I don't think that boat will have anything bigger than a 28. If I'm right about Maximus and a 28P minimum then he won't be able to switch to that prop (28 bravo would need to drop to a 26 maximus) |
Maximus propellers are available down to 24 inches of pitch. We would definately have to modify the diameter as they come in 15 5/8" diameters to start.
We need you current propeller and WOT rpn vs. speed. B |

He Guys, thanks for the information!
The boat comes with a 4 blade stock prop. 15 1/4 x 26P. Ratio is 1.65:1. We just bought the boat, so we didn't test it with the stockprop. We wan't to try a lab finisch maximus 15 1/4 x 24 P. What do you think guys? Thanks in advance |
I think it is a great idea. Let us know when you are ready and we'll send one to you.
Ultimately the diameter will need to be reduced but the stock prop will help to determine if you like the over all characteristics. |
