Older Clever, is thrust washer needed

1 Attachment(s)
I picked up a set of clevers in very good condition off ebay but when they arrived I was surprised by what appears to be a design that does not use a thrust washer.

Here's a picture of the back of the prop. The end is tapered (and nicked a bit, I need to get that machined) and it looks like it's not intended to be used with a thrust washer OR the thrust washer also has a tapered insert.

The part number is 48-74602A 23P

I assume these are old, possibly from a TRS drive but my boat really seems to like clevers and I would like to run this one since the 23" I have needs some major TLC. It's an '87 Donzi 22 Classic with a '96 Bravo 1. Runs 64 mph @ 4850 RPM on my current 23" clever, that's pretty good for an old classic V-Bottom and a basic 7.4L motor.

Ideas?

I fitted the prop today and the taper fits the shaft with no room on the nut side for any additional washers so this is obviously one of the older ones that do not use thrust washers.

Originally they ran with 39701 front splined washer, a 39698 rear flat washer and a 52707Q1 nut.

So, are you saying it's been machined to work with the newer tapered shafts. In fact, I think the splines end long before the front side (thrust washer taper) of the shaft.

No it is factory. You need the washers and nut for the rear.

Ok, I understand now. I used a splined rear washer that came off the original rubber hub Clever that was on the boat along with the tabbed washer and locking nut. It's all pre-FloTorque stuff. It looks like this part:

That will work. the other part numbers are something else old school.
