HELP with propping/getting bow lift?!?!?!?!

hey guys-
i know someone here can help me. here's the deal..... i've got a 2002 25 Outlaw with a 496 mag HO. it has a 25p mirage stainless, 3 blade prop. when i'm running all out with my drive and tabs dialed in, i'm gettin about 62mph and a max of 4300rpm. to me, the speed seems about right for a top end on this boat but the rpms are quite low compared to everything i've read and been told.
also, it is very slow getting up on plane! and besides that....i have essentially NO bow lift while running. i've had countless ppl tell me that i gotta trim it more, play with the drive, blah blah blah. i've done everything i can on board and nothing helps! i'm pushing more water then any other boat around me. can someone PLEASE HELP ME??? any help is appreciated guys, thanks!
BILL

Bill, not an expert, but, you may get some bow lift w/ a 24p
Bravo 1 4 blade... they characteristically raise the bow, vs. the stern. Regarding the slow to plane, and low RPMs, any chance the hull is waterlogged? (carrying extra weight)

Yep, I'd go with a Bravo. It will get on plane faster, and help carry the bow a bit more.

Darrell.

Hey Bubba, ask Jess 2 sit at the back of the boat 4 bow lift!!!:evilb:

You clearly have the wrong prop...You need that engine to spin 5000RPM's! Right now you are causing damage to the engine running with that prop. Try the bravo prop as suggested.

The fastest prop that will give the most bow lift on your hull is a 23" Mirage Plus. A bravo prop will not give as much bow lift. I think a lot of the problem is that the prop is too big. Almost all 25 outlaws come with a 23 mirage Plus as the stock prop.
Plaining time will be slightly better with the 23 also.

Here is a picture I took of Bill's boat. This is as much bow lift as he can get.
I use to have a Baja 272 which is pretty much the same hull. It came with a 23p Mirage Plus and I had a lot of prop slip. I switched to a 22p Bravo 1, 4 blade and I loved it. In my experience that 3 blade isn't enough prop for that heavy of a boat with a single. I think a labbed 22p Bravo1 brought up to a 23p would be perfect for him.

Bill, check that the tabs are lifting to the fully up position (above parallel to hull), then check that the drive trim is functioning properly, and mark on you gauge where zero is (propshaft running parallel to bottom of boat).
I presume you donīt have a cooler full of beer in the cabin, or an anchor with chain under the bed, because that sure donīt help.

Tabs fully up, drive out just above zero setting will be where the music is. You are looking for 67/68 mph @ 4900/5000 rpm.

An unlabbed 25" Mirage is alot of prop for a 425 powered 25. A labbed 25" would work, or an unlabbed 23". As was already said, you need to get more revs. At the moment your settup would put you at 67/68 mph with 4600 rpm.

The 496 definitely shows its best when propped to top out at just before 5000. Above that doesnīt help, and below is a real speed killer.

wow! lots of good info so far! to answer a few questions that have been asked...the hull is not water logged, my drive and tabs are ALL working correctly, and there is no extra weight being added up front. i keep everything to the back. Anchors, chains, coolers, etc is all in the back.
With that being said...i'm getting conflicting ideas here on how to fix my issues. Some are saying to get a mirage 23, and others are saying a bravo in like a 24p or so. AHHHH! Which is better? My hole shot isn't that important to me i guess when compared to top end, and getting bow lift. So...... ???

Bill,
I think it is a personal problem that you can get it up.:evilb:

I said a 22p Bravo1 (4 Blade). With a B1 and 24p it will be as bad as your 25p 3 blade.

Where is Julie from Throttle up???

Griff 05-15-2008 12:08 PM

A Mirage Plus is the right prop to lift the bow. That boat should run on the last 4 feet of hull when trimmed up. What happens if you keep trimming it up???? Nothing???? Have you tried trimming beyond the trailer stop???? The stop and trim guage pucks may not be set right.
In the pic, you have no rooster tail at all. You should have a little- maybe a foot high and 5 feet long.
Have you checked for a hook in the hull????

Freeryd 05-15-2008 12:33 PM

hook in the hull? yes, i've tried trimming her WAY up! all that happens is i get a HUGE rooster tail, lose speed, and she revs up. nothing else. OK- so a mirage plus 3 blade is what i want. now what pitch? and do i just get a basic prop and call it good, or do i get it labbed? i really appreciate the help!

Griff 05-15-2008 02:33 PM

Go with a 23 pitch Mirage Plus and get it custom labbed from there if needed. It is the correct prop for the boat. If it doesn't give you more bow lift and more speed, there is some other issue holding it back. You should see 4800-5000 rpms with it and 65mph.

Call Brett at BBLADES and try a Mirage 23 as suggested. He has probably setup hundreds of props for a 25' Outlaw. You are only out your time and shipping charges for the prop.
Like everyone has set, you need to turn it up to 5,000 RPMS.
Last year I ended up testing a 25p Mirage and it changed my midrage and top end by so much I bought 2. I bought the test one and purchased a second one to put in the waiting line to get labbed.

A 23 M+ Labbed to the correct spec's. is the correct propeller for the boat. We have built countless props for these hulls.

You right Griff! I have tried a 22 bravo 1 on my baja 25 outlaw and it doesn't like at all. I have gotten a lot of porpoise like crazy at cruising speed with 2 feet chop. I just putting back my 23 mirage +, and no porpoise, better cruising speed, and better top end.
The best propeller for this boat is 23 mirage + with lab finished, nothing else's, that's it and that's all.......for my 2 cents. ;)
