I think I need a five blade

I recently converted my 27 excalibur to a bravo.I set the x at 19 inches. For power i have a 540 that makes 650hp at 5500.I am running a 28 bravo that was labbed by merc racing for my friends 25 outlaw. At 5700 i am doing 86mph and at 3800 53mph.The slip numbers seem kind of high. I was wondering if a 5 blade would be a better prop because of the drive hieght. When it was a trs i use to run a 25 mirage plus un touched and at 3600 i ran 50-52 depending on the day and 78at 5400.

I have a brand new Hydromotive 27 P5 and a 4 blade Hydro as well

I might be willing to do a deal with your Bravo Prop. Look at My prop question for details on how the ran on my boat. The P5 costs about $1150 Thanks,Steve 516 771-6492

A 19" X is pretty high for a single engine conventional V. Your propshaft has to be about only 3" below the bottom. I'm betting you throw a pretty good rooster tail. How is the bow lift??? Does it respond well to trim??? You may be better off trying a 1" spacer.

The boat has a notched transom and is a 7 ft beam if that helps. It does respond well to trim.the more i trim it the faster it goes. Here is a link of me running the boat .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSSG-9bdwy8 .The boat did pick up 6 mph from the swap.I am going to try a new 30 bravo one just to see what it does.Do you think a hydromotive px5 could work for me.

I run my outdrive at 3-3.5 inches below the keel, with a notched transom... and I love the P5-x's. They hook up much better than the Bravo's on the bottom end, and are a couple of mph faster on the top end.

Chris

p.s. your boat looks like it is running really well across the water

Excaliber

I ran a 28 Bravo yesterday and got 81.6@5250. My 30 Hydromotive 4 blade got me 79.2@4900. Maybe a hydro Bravo trade might work out for both of us.Its for the big shaft and is MINT.

The running attitude looks pretty good. A PX5 should reduce your slip and increase your cruise speeds. I would talk to BBlades to get an expert opinion on what you should expect. I think he likes the 5 Blade Maximus better.

I just tried a un touched 30 bravo. At 3800 61-62 and at 5200 85.8 so i'm sayin 86.That was in dead calm water. The boat likes chopp. I think a 30 labbed might be the one.I only have to trim it a little and it throws a mean tail.Chris i think you might be right with the px5 what pitch do you think i would need.

Thanks Rob

excalibur82 10-22-2009 01:18 PM

Griff that day i had a hole in my trim line so I had just a little trim in it.when you trim it more it really loosens up and throws a big tail but it dose not get much faster.Maybe BBlades will chine in.But i think the five blade might be the answer.

Props

The best way to find out if one works is to try it. I just cleaned out about 10 of my 20 props I have collected for mainly out boards. I just started My I/O collection last month, Im up to five different props. By next month it should be up to 10. When I find the best three I will sell the rest to get my money back. I even will buy two the same ones as they might run differently. The key is to buy them cheap so you dont take such a hit. Good luck. Dont under estimate a good 4 blade for a 5.

A thinned 29 pitch P5-x. I just so happen to have one that was labbed by Hering.

Chris you think a labbed 29 won"t be to big.Are you selling that prop?I really would like to try one.Do you think i will lose some speed up top or gain with a five blade.

If it gains quite a bit of rpm, throws a rooster and does not pick up much speed, then I would say you need to go an inch deeper with a spacer. A 5 Blade may also be the answer. I had the same thing on my 28 Pantera. I dropped an inch lower to about 4.5" below the bottom and the boat responded much better to trim. Slip went down about 5%. Picked up 2 mph on teh top end. The 5 blades were not out yet when I did this though and I never tried one.

excalibur82 10-23-2009 09:09 AM

Well the 28 bravo that was labbed that prop for some reason the more i trimed it it got faster but real lose and felt unstable. This 30bravo one the more i trim it it just keeps getting faster and throws a huge tail. And my slip numbers are 12- 13% across the board with the 30 so that might be the prop.

Griff 10-23-2009 12:16 PM

The 30 Bravo 1 numbers sound real good. With 12-13% slip your slip is just fine. If you need some more rpm, then contact BBlades. He should be able to tweak it without changing any of the handling characteristics.

Halls just got me over 5 mph from my Hydro 30 84.4@5100. told me 87+from a 28. Anyone have a big shaft 28 Hydro for sale.Or need a p5 27,Quad 28 small shaft 28 or bravo?
