28 Bravos or 26 hydros???

1999 38 scarab avs 550 hp. currently running bravo 30 pitch. light load 5100rpm 80mph. heavy load,6 people, 4800 72mph.high X dimension always have alot of cavitation getting on plain. boat previously ran 77mph 5700rpm with 26 bravos. looking to improve what ever I can with out hurting top speed.I think 28's would be the best bet to help with a full load and also not hurt top speed when running light. what about the 5 blade hydros? will it hurt top end speed with light or heavy load? will it improve cruise? thanks
or should I send my 30's to Brett and lab them down alittle?

28 sound like your best bet. depends on what kinda rpms u wanna run. sounds like the 28 will put you about 5300-5400. I lost 2-3 mph going from a labbed 4blade 28 to 5blade 27. you should gain about 300 rpm by labbing i did on my bravos. Overall i think my boat runs better with a labbed prop. Listen to brett he will take care of ya.

Tony the 30's on your boat are labbed. PropGods in FL did them.

See what you think of the P5s. I like the P5Xs with a little help from Brett.

jason, just talked to Ken at Propgod and he states they dont lab props. They send them out to Leading Edge Prop. to a guy named Rich Junker. why or how do you think they where labbed?

Jpzaluski 08-13-2010 12:00 AM

Because they're thinned and cupped. Ken had these props in stock, labbed. I originally was going to by stock 30's and have them labbed, but he said that he had a pair that didn't behave well on a customer boat and said to give them a try. If I didn't like them I could exchange for a set of stock props. I believe the guy you mentioned is the one he said he had do them.

tcuda499,

I would have called but I don't know which number is yours. My phone list gets a little long this time of the year. I return every call but sometimes not as fast as I would like to. Hopefully we did speak.

The slip on the 30's is 15.19%. Depending on the "Lab" process that was done, there could be more that could be done. With the heavier load, the slip jumps pretty well. It would be helpful the see the 30's. Also, we need to know what rpm you wish to run at.

Call back on Monday and we can discuss the options including testing. If I am on the phone, leave a message that it is tcuda499 from the OSO thread and I'll get back to you ASAP. Otherwise, speak with Brad. He has all the skills and can help anybody with set up and testing. If he has any concerns, he will get with me.

Thank you,
Brett

thanks Brett!
I have a set of Hydros P5 26 pitch that I think I like better than the Bravos. Hole shot a little better, lower plane speeds, and right now same top end as the B1 30's.....80 at 5150rpm. I think I will send you the P5's to do your magic:evilb:
thanks
