Formula 382 Fastech like more speed!
Hello
I have a 2001 382 Fastech with 500efi, without boxes, air and genset. Spinning 26 Bravos non labbed. My topspeed is 70mph and once 72mph at 5000rpm with alot of trim (8-9). Cruise at 3500rpm is about 46mph depending on trim. I like to see 75-76mph at top, more cruise speed would also be great. Is that possible with some proppwork? Thanks Bompa |
Try spinning the props in to lift the bow more.
|
Could try that but do i need so much bow lift on a stepphull? Does spinning the propps in usualy increase the speed?
|
The 382's are HEAVY. I knew a guy with a 382 and he went to 5 blades to get better cruise speed and then switched to spinning the 5 blades in to get his top end speed back.
It really depends on the boat and what it needs as to whether you will gain speed. A lot of boats gain speed, but sometimes handling suffers. |
Bompa, I don't think you will see 76 with 500's but I could be wrong.Give Brett at BBlades a call. I am sure he can get your boat around 74. He may set up your 26's or you can try some 28's from his loaner program. I don't know the characteristics of the 500's versus the 525's,but I do know that the 26's would not be enough prop for my boat. I run labbed 28's and labbed 26 five blades. BTW i have the same equipment as you, air, genset but no boxes. Hope this helps.

Will try to spinn propps in some day, and my mercury dealar want my to try some Revulution 4 propps so see what that would give, and i have some Maximus 26 labbed ordered but will see if they show up. BONDO10 i dont have air and genset so my boat should be lighter. Thanks Bompa

More speed
700's w/nxt's will get you 97. Above 80 my 382 sets on the back step and is solid. The issue with bravo drives is that it is a heavy boat and tends to be hard on drives especially in the ocean. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OowWR...e=channel_page

Looks nice, 700sci with nxt would be great but i dont have the money. The Bravos seems to hold up pretty good with the 500efi so far. Does the 382 Factech like much bowlift?

I have a 2000 382 w/500 EFI's, no gen or holding tank, I do have AC and ext boxes and I run on stock 28's and max out at 5200 rpm's and see 74 mph. I cruise at 45 mph @3700 rpm's.
I want to move closer to 30's to have better cruise speed at lower rpm's I can't imaging running on 26" props. You must have had then worked pretty close to 28". |
Dont think any job have been done to them, not by me anyway. And my slip numbers are pretty low.
Bravo 26 1.5ratio 20% at 3500rpm 13,5% at 5000rpm |
i am surprised your running 26's...with 28's you are sure to see a top end difference.
|
Yes i am also wondering why i only can spin 26s when everybode else spin 28 or 30s, but my slip is very low.
Did try out some Revolution 4 25s last week but with these i had 3% more slip, 4-5mph slower cruisiespeed and same topspeed at 5400rpm. But i did noticed that one engine did take more time to spin up at same rpm as the other, when i tried the Rev 4s. Do also notice that with the Bravos but not as much. So i dont think one of the engine performs like the other. |

A friend has an 05 382 with 496HO's and on a light load spins labbed Bravo 26's to 5000rpm....71-72mph.

recently sold a 2002 382, air/heat, no boxes. Had 8 psi prochargers on 500efi's and ran upper 90's.......sold the prochargers and built N/A 540's than ran mid 80's. The boat handles great at speed but does take alot of power to run. I ran 3 summers on 32P 4 blades then the boat lost 2 drives in under 12 months after switching to 5 blades....700lbs of TQ probably didn't help matters though.
