raises my drives 2" need prop suggestions....
heres the facts:
33 Powerplay w #4's on boxes full length bottom w props about 48" from running surface props were 3" or less below hull before and now are 1" or less old props were 17 X 28P 3 blades labbed by BBlades boat ran perfect but came on plane too easy so i raised drives what should i try now that ive gone up two inches??? |
I would guess your going to need at least 4 blades and most likely 5 blades just to get the boat on plane.
|
thats what i was thinking too....
|
Four blades should be just fine......especially since your boat looks to be staggered and light with no cabin. I'm running 1/4" below the hull with #6's on a side by side Top Gun with cabin and have zero slip getting on plane with 4 blades.
I don't think your SSM 4's trim in/under as far as No. 6's, but with that much setback, staggered, and much less weight you should be ok. I have a set of 17 1/2 x 29 Four Blades if you're looking for a little more diameter and bite with the higher drives :drink: |
my boat is now side by side. also the big different between my boat and your cig is that your boat has a notched transom. my props are about 48" back from the running surface when trimmed neutral...........they say the water rises about an inch per foot on average. how far from your running surface are your props???????? you throw a pretty good roost?????

First thing we would do is run the props you have. This way you can make a direct comparison to the original set up. You can see first hand the ability to plane changes, the rpm gains versus speed and therefore the slip %. Direct baseline comparisons will be useful.
Ultimately, additional blades and a possible diameter change may be needed. But, do the easiest test first. Brett |
brett i want to look for the most likely props over the winter. so, using your many years of experience, if you had to pick one likely prop what would it be? blades, diam., pitch????
|
Shooting from the hip 17-17.25x30,31 4 blade props. That is to keep the R's in the same realm as now. (slight mods may be required)
We can alway cut diameter and match thickness curves on bigger props if you find some used big diameters wheels. A back to back comparison with the new height and old props would be nice though. |
thank you appreciate it. i will do some looking.
