Herring Props?
Anybody have any experience with Herring's Titanum props, 5 blade? I have a 2000 30' Cigarette Mystique with 500's redone; dynoed at 564hp. Boat wieghs 7800 dry. I have bravo 1 drives with 28p 4 blade bravo props. I run fresh water and boat tops at 81mph.
Not concerned with gaining more top end, but do not want to lose any either. Boat tends to porpose at cruising, which is easily fixed with a little tab. My goal is to gain better cruising performance and planing. Any input is appreciated. |
I don't know about the herrings, but 5 blades Maximus props will degress your rpm by 200-300 rpm. You will gain a lot at cruising and it will be easy to get on plan, but top end is the pits. I have a 1994 Cigarette Top Gun. The 5 blades have way to much stern lift, preventing the nose to lift. In turn, can't get any good top end. I labbed them and I am not happy with my results. They increased my slip to settle down the stern lift. I did gain top end from non labbed, but destoryed my mid range cruise. Pointless and a waste of money. NO....Bblades did not lab my props. FYI

hold that thought, i think for 10k you are better off buying -2" shorties and a set of 6 blade herrings, i think with this combo you will 100% eliminate the porpoise, and pick up top end at the same time... I will know for sure in about a month

Sorry but the 2" shorty idea isn't my best suggestion. get the maximus props done specific to the boat will be better off. Your porpoise may go away with the 6 blades but it is because of the stern lift the props create and doesn't allow the bow to lift decreasing any porpoise. This can be a top speed scratcher. We'll wait to hear your true results. Urban, have us re-do the props the right way and you will progress across the board. Titanium...,......Spitaniunimum......OK, been there done that. The results are.................you tell me..............talk to the actual race teams and get their results over the SS CNC castings. Are the costs worth the performance? Got Cigs, 5 and or 6 blade props may be the best idea per your goals. I think some testing is the best order. Let us know how we can help. Brett |

Not making any quick decisions yet... will wait for your test results. Brett, I dont race my boat, and supposedly those props were designed for boats running 500's-700's... still a bad way to go? Will most likely contact bblades closer to the spring, im still in a deep freeze here in Jersey. Thanx for your input. |

When the Titanium props first came out there was a buzz about them. Some race teams claimed to pick up some speed. Since then the fluff has gone away and I don't hear of any better performance. It's just like anything else. On some boats they work great and others they don't improve anything. The correct prop from the get go is the key.
Actually, less blades are the fastest if the prop hooks up well and carries the boat attitude properly. Brett |

What was the cost vs. the other Herings? I'm going to need to do something after tax time. If I can after tax time. Maybe I need a new accountant. Well, that's another story....

Post your results, would like to know how they worked compared to a SS prop. Did you go with 5 or 6 blade?
