How to pick the right prop??
 

I am getting ready to try and select the "right" prop for my new boat by running different sizes and pitches. Other than top end numbers, what does one look for in the right prop and how do you evaluate them? I am going to start with a set recommended by Bill at Herring, then where does one go form there and what do you look for? I am new at this prop selection business.

I think you should call Eliminator and ask them what the best prop is for your boat. They will have a good idea. I am in the same position and through good advice, I'll use either Hering or BBlades exchange programs. I'll look for what Dave recommended used to try to save some money, but I think these people really know what they are doing and probably better off to start with them first. Only problem with BBlades is getting them to respond to you. I think most important to have a prop that will plane easily, and have good midrange efficiency. It is amazing what can be done to the props to get your hull to have good manners.

I believe the props on the boat now are what Eliminator put on the boat. I too like a easy to plane boat with good mid acceleration and a decent top end. I read a lot of posts about the selection process of the correct props and I was just wondering what to look for. Herring has a program, as I understand it, where I buy the first set of titanium props and I can keep trying different ones until I find the ones that I like. I guess it has to do with how the boat handles and accelerates and the top end number and if the boat hits the rev limiters.

Yes takes some testing, give results to prop people, they will send another pair. When you get the best ones they can further tweak them for your application.

I apologize if you have found it hard to reach us. This is not our intention and indeed our goal is the opposite.

First thing to do is examine the propellers you have to determine the pitch, diameter, number of blades and the manufacturer. Remember, people repair and tweak propellers all the time via their local prop shop without always knowing what has been done. Knowledge of the original specs. are crucial. Knowledgeable inspection may become necessary Once you have this information, base line speed and rpm numbers will help to push you to the right next step. This is where we can offer assistance.

If you are considering spending the money on ti props, why not get 2 sets in ss for different purposes instead. If you only have one set that needs to do everything, you are compromised in your setup. Most have more than one set because of this.

Titanium Props
 

It is my understanding the titanium increase the mid range acceleration in engines such as the 700 sc's I have. I bought 2 today from Herring. I hope they work well.

Herring Props
 

Sure. The dealer I bought my new boat from is in Seattle for the boat show, so I FedEx him the money to drop by Herring in person and pick up the props. I will ask him to forward a picture and post here. i will not actually see them in person until I go to take delivery of the boat in Havasu. I am excited about the props and will post for others here how they work and how they change the acceleration.
