Prop upgrade for Superboats Offshore Boat with 502 MPI
I am posting this for a friend.
He has a Superboats brand offshore boat with a 502 MPI, Bravo 1 outdrive running a 14.5 x 28 pitch Bravo 1 propeller. Boat runs over 80 mph at wot, which is close to 5000 rpms or maybe a few less.
Boat gets on plane really well and can cruise at 40 with no problems with slippage, etc.
Anyone have a similar setup and any suggestions on getting a bit more mph or performance, other than doing the cupping or labbing???
Has anyone ran any of the cleaver or chopper type props and seen any significance performance, top end, etc.?
Thanks for the info.

Is it a 24 Superboat? Is it the newer step/pad hull or the older straight V?
I owned a '98 step hull and found the Bravo 1 to be the best prop for the boat.
I doubt your friends boat is truely running over 80 MPH (GPS) with 415 HP. If it is, don't change a thing. That is as good as it gets. My 24 ran a consistent 77-78 with 425 HP. I had over 500 hours of seat time in the boat, in every imaginable condition. I saw 80 on my GPS once or twice but I think it was a fluke due to current, wind, etc.

Dave,
I reconfirmed with my buddy and he also stated that he is getting 78mph at 5000 rpms. He will get 80 like you did every so often. It looks like there are only a few other mods available, such as a whipple charger or ecm tweak. His boat is a 99 model, which I do not know which hull he has. Thanks for the info.

A 99 has the newer hull. Sounds like he is dialed in pretty good. For more speed he will probably have to add more power.
I ran a 28P right out of the box. I thought about getting it worked but my slip numbers were so low I left well enough alone.
Good luck, I'd be curious if prop work could get him any more speed.
