props for 300x sutphen

I was out yesterday and figured Id check my RPms and see how my props looked on my 31 sutphen.

Its a spirit model with twin 300x, sportmaster combo. Usually runs around 78 MPH but has been as fast as 82 MPH.

So yesterday , I was running back from LI and watched the RPMS and I was seeing 5730 based on a freind GPS in a boat next to me running 85 to 86 we figured I was running 82 to 83 at 5730. The way I was trimmed running back in about 1 ft or less chop.

In the river trimmed out pretty well, in flat water I was seeing 6370 RPM, No GPS so no Idea of MPH

I have bravo 1, 24 pitch, 4 blade props on the boat right now.

Anyone have any input or suggestions?

Neither does he! :drink:

+1 for getting some real data from a GPS so you can see what's going on. You might have been running 83 at 5730 rpm, but you could have also been running 73 at 6370 with a lot more prop slip since you were playing with the jack height at the same time. You need to get some more detailed data before you start looking for something other than those 'fishin' props. Also, keep in mind the currents or tides can play games with the numbers. ;)

302Sport 05-02-2011 11:44 AM

true, also those 2 strokes just keep making more and more power with rpm, so you should really be propped right at the limiter. being able to move the bracket up and down is nice but it really makes it hard on trying to find a prop haha. that boat is light in the azz with the ob's so maybe going to a three blade mirage will help carry the bow without needing as much trim input.

302Sport 05-02-2011 11:44 AM

also, has anyone ever raced a 31 sutphen with ob's??????? maybe hearing their input would be able to help you out. if you really want the mph, put through hull pickups, jack them up, and run cleavers. when you start surfacing a mirage/bravo style prop it isnt going to like it

Good points Adam. There's speed left in that setup, that's for sure.

If its running mid 80's now, may see 90 with the right set up.....:party-smiley-004:

Nah, Jimmy runs mid 90's with trips. He also uses a Hydromotive semi cleaver.

302Sport 05-02-2011 03:26 PM

i bet that windshields good for about -4MPH haha

30ctsutphen 05-02-2011 06:23 PM

Actually Richie did say 4 MPH for the windshield I sh it you not!.LOL

I have low water pickups on the hull already so I can jack it to the sky~!

I didnt have my GPS hand held with me and I wasnt planning on running it hard the first day out with new lowers just ended up that way So kiss my AZZ.LOL

I dont know of anyone who raced an OB 31 Only 31 spirit I know of that raced was GA!

I m just playing with it. My 26 rum runner had 260 carbed mercs and ran 27 pitch 3 blade props. I always thought 24 4 blades seemed a bit small for this set up with the torque of the 300x motors, So I figured Id look for some expert advice, but you guys are OK to answer too! hahahahahah

I figured Highlife would be here by now too, hes MR. 300x or maybe Jimmy knowles.

To be honest its the first time I even had the smart craft on RPM I am usually keeping and eye on water temp.

I rarely push the boat. I dont want to break it, thats reserved for the drag cars!:drink:

If it really is 4 mph than you should rig it up so that if u want to flat out run you can pull some pins take the windshield off, change the props and Ur off to the races

thats a good Idea!

My luck it would bounce off and decapitate me though.LOL:eek:

Would be cool to be able to put it on and off easily but I like it for poker runs because I can actually talk to people and have a conversation while running the boat.

No Idea where the limiter would be set on a 300X

30ctsutphen 05-04-2011 09:40 PM

looks like the rev limiter at least in 2003 was set at 6800 RPM

Mine are 2005's so not sure if there was a change

abones 05-06-2011 10:13 AM

Try those Mazcos for sale in the Clasifieds, 3 blades cleavers seller might deal sounds perfect for your set up
