Formula 292 SR1 Props?

I just picked up an '89 Formula 292 SR1 with 454 Mags. The boat didn't come with props and I'm curious what I should use. I've read that the Hydromotives work great and that this boat likes to have the rotation switched so the props rotate inward. What pitch and prop would you suggest?

Try a pair of 23 Mirages first to get a baseline.

I don't know about switching the props inward will help. Not very many late eightys Formulas running inward with with a Bravo setup i think a couple tried it and it made the boat squirrely. But give it a try!! let us know!!

Well the boat had 330's not mags but I ended up using 24 pitch Hydromotive QIV's, which got me 62/63 MPH @ 4600 rpms. This past spring I build up a set of 454 Mags that should be around 460 HP, so now the prop search starts again. I bought some props this past winter, Hydro QIV 25's and 26's. Both are too much prop for these engines. The 26 yielded 4700 rpms and 66 mph, the 25 is at 4900 and 67.5 MPH. I've yet to try to spinn the props inward but I need the RPMs up around 5300-5500 rpms so I can get in to the powerband better. Hydro suggested last year that I have the props trimmed to 14.75 vs 15.5 which is the stock diameter.

Thanks for the update..just picked up 88 292 sri stock bb 454, guy claims 66 with stock quicksilvers (non mirage's or plus i think) 23p, full tank, 5 peeps..and barvo 1's (22p) get about 63 at 4800 rpm all on gps. Just wonderng if i can find some more top end somewhere as well as what to expect with getting labbed with this boat. swimpatform is off so i think gets light load too. What ya mean by "inward"? both drives? mine are lh/rh..bad idea for this particular boat ive been readin about in a few posts?

define "squirrely" ? took boat out for first ride, felt out of control at times w/ steering -very loose...has Tye bar and no hydraulic though i see a hydraulic clear line tube in the helm under dash full of fluid but stack transoms...those cable steering come with fluid at helm? never saw that before.
looks like the Teleflex Seastar helm pumps ?
How you make on your props endeavour32?

I've tested my props spinning inward and I like it. The boat is better in rough water and is faster. I picked up about 2-3 MPH spinning inward. I'm now hitting a solid 70-71 MPH. The mirages you're using are completely different than the hydros I'm using so your result may differ.

ya, i have a pair of 22 bravo's that came with boat that ill try and maybe lab them. Nice, ya hit 70 mph. Is it what you wanted? my issue is had a 1200 fountain that did 85 with its blower. after that speed feeling going down to 60 is a "humbling" experience.
Are you using full hydraulic now that your at that speed?
