My very first post on this forum and I'm already asking for help :party-smiley-004:

Here goes anyhow...

I recently picked up a 1990 226 out of Kentucky. The 454 has a freshened bottom end to factory specs, cam, roller rockers, exhaust, custom 4bbl and a B&M running around 7lbs. Bravo 1 (unsure of gearing) and a labbed Hydro 4 blade 26p prop. The boat hit 74.2 at 5200. I don't know the HP.

While I am tickled at the top end of the boat, I would like a prop more suited to cruising and towing. With a full tank and 3 people on board it takes 7 seconds to plane. Add 2 more people and some gear and we are in the 10-12 second range. This is most likely because if the motor is spun past 3k coming out of the hole, the prop starts to cavitate.

I want to use the boat primarily for family, cruising, and towing. (I'll save the fast stuff for those who can appreciate it. My wife didn't like getting airborne on her first trip!)

I am prepared to add a rev limiter to the existing msd ignition to prevent accidental over-rev.

What are some thoughts about pitch/props. Am I close by guessing a 23p Revolution 4? Also, as this is my first powerboat, am I whining about 7 seconds to plane?
