changing props on a 29 outlaw
I want to go to a four blade bravo prop on my 29 outlaw, I do have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I currently turn 23p mirage plus props at 4500rpm with 330hp 454s (non-mag). I assume that I will need to go to 22p bravo props, but the prop diameter on the 4 blades are 15 1/4 and the mirage props are like 14 1/4 or so. How will this affect the rpms??? is there a different dia bravo prop I should look at?
Any help you guys can offer is appreciated!!! |
First off, why do you wish to go to a 4 blade? Which pitch ect. depends on that.
The Mirage is 14 5/5", so not that small and the B1 is actually 15" true dia. The B1 22" is 21"-21" and a bit in terms of pitch and same goes for the other props in the B1 line. I think Brett calls them 21.3". Are you planning on labbing them? If not you should give the Rev4 a try, in stock form, it's a better choice imo. In stock form, they provide better bow lifi than the B1s which the Baja likes. The dia. of the Rev4 is 14.5/8". Unless you lab them, you will need to go down one step over the M+ in terms of pitch, if you want to keep the revs at the top of reccomended rpms. 21" 4 blades, will put you around 4600-4700. Current pitch 4 blade will put you around 4250-4350. If labbing, talk to Bblades about a set of 24" B1s. It kinda depends on what your goal is. |
Well, the reason for the 4 blade is simply that while the 3 blade is a good top speed prop for the boat, 29 outlaws run better with 4 blade props. The boat likes to porpose at mid range speed if it has much if any trim and for some reason I have to use tab to level the boat because it likes to lean slightly to starboard. I think that some if this is due to the hook in the bottom of the hull. I don't know if different props will help, but others believe that it will some and that twin engine outlaws just handle better with bravo one props.
I am not against trying a revolution prop, but I am not going to buy new ones, only sell the 3 blades and buy some used 4 blades. I found a good deal on some 22 pitch bravo props and wanted to know if the increased diameter would effect engine rpm, as I would like to keep them about where they are now (4500-4600). Thank you for the response, it did help some. |
