242 prop
I just put my new to me 242 ss in the water this past weekend it has a 3 blade 19 pitch prop on it now, it seems to me like i can go to a higher pitch prop. Does anyone have any input for me? What is the advantages and disadvantages to 3 or 4 blade props? Thanks for any help.

Had a 242 LS with the 365HP Mag Engine. I think the stock prop on these was a Mirage 21P (non-plus). I added more HP (up to 620HP) and went to a Mirage Plus 27P. Most with stock power will be running a 23P Mirage (non-plus), a 21P Mirage Plus, or a 22P Bravo One.
I would suggest sticking with the 3 blades if you are looking for top end. The 4 blade will increase cruise speed and help you get out of the hole, but will probably be a little slower up top. |
the 22p bravo is gonna be a 4 blade correct? sorry im new to game. thanks for the help

I ran both a 21 non plus Mirage and 21 Plus prop on my 242. The Plus was much better in carrying the bow which will give a touch more top end. What engine and RPM's are you getting with the 19?

I wasn't pushing it. First run on the new motor. I had it up to 4500 4600 rpm's and i would say i was roughly at 3/4 throttle maybe a hair more. comes out of the water no problem with the 19

Yes, the 22P Bravo One is a four blade. Even after the switch to bigger HP, my 242 behaved better with a 3 blade prop. I would suggest finding a 21P Mirage or Mirage Plus to borrow/test and see what you get.
Keep in mind, at the end of the day you're probably talking about the difference between 52 and 55 MPH. Is that worth testing and spending the $$$? |
yeah i think ill try the 21 mirage plus thanks for the help
