Prop Rotation Question
I have a 32 Fountain Fever with twin 502s. Someone was telling me it makes a difference on the direction of the props as far as the rotation direction of both turning inward or both turn outward. The gentalmen said one direction will raise the stern of the boat and one direction will hold the bow up more. Can anyone confirm this is correct? If so which way does what? I know that mine are spining toward the middle of the boat. This being in I'm thinking.

Brett will most likely pipe in here and give you a better answer but until then I will give you a basic answer. Spinning them in as you are now will give you less stern lift. Spinning them out will give you more stern lift. Spinning them out will also give you a bit better dock manners. I spin my props in and I like the general feel of the boat, I also gained a bit of speed. All boats are different as are different types of props. The only way to see what is better for your boat is to switch the rotation and see how it compares. If you're running bravo drives all you need to do is switch the props from one side to the other and run the drives in reverse. Hope this helps answer your question.

Spinning in gives more bow lift and sometimes 1-2mph more on the top speed. Some boats can get really loose spinning inward and its harder to manuever around the docks.
Spinning the props out is what probably 80% of boats do. I can't imagine that a 32 Fountain really needs to spin the props in to get more bow lift. |
Thanks for your input guys. I sent Brett a set of Bravo's to work for me so Im waiting for him to call me anytime now. The props delivered to his place last friday. This does make complete sense. I guess I really never thought about there being a difference until the gentalmen ask me that question a couple of days ago. His response was identical to what you both have said about the handling around the docks. He just couldn't remember which way would give stern lift. Yes both answers helped with my question.

You guys are right on! It's amazing how much information has transpired through this web site over the years. It's really cool.
Lucky, I was traveling for a couple days. Once the propellers are inspected and measured, I'll be in touch. Happy Thanksgiving. Brett |
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well Brett. Talk to you soon.

I have tryed both ways many times on my 1996 single step32 with bravos and hydros. Turning them out, I felt that the boat was more stable at 60-75mph. Around the docks more manageable.

Thanks Glen. Which props were better in your opion? You have the exact boat and the same set up as I do. I sent off a set of Bravo's to BBlades so I'm hoping thats the answer. My boat just doesn't seem to hold her bow up when she's trimed out. Not like she should anyhow. I don't have any trouble with stability. Not that I can feel anyhow. Docking she is a total ***** but I can deal with that part. I see by your picture your drive's are turning out. Let me know please.

Just rember turning out will hold port an starboard up. A more stable an safe boat. You can build lift in the prop. The boat will roll more turning in. Artie
