28 magic with 525 and 26p bravo

I have a 28' magic deckboat with a 525 blue motor and a 26p bravo thats stock with a imco lower. Turns right at 5000 rpm at 74 mph thats with 20 gals fuel and 3 people. With full fuel think 60 gals and 6 people will turn the 5000 rpm but only 67 mph. Would goin to a labbed 28 help gain some top end back? Not to concered with out of the whole more midrange to top end performance. THoughts BB Blades...

prerunner404,

Hello, and thanks for the question. The reason the speed drops with the added weight is obvious. It is the added weight. But, going beyond that to get to the meat and potatoes, it is because the weight causes the boat to ride lower within the water column. The added fiberglass in the water creates drag. Drag is performance boating's worst enemy. Now why is the rpm still the same? It is because the propeller efficiency has been decreased due to the added drag. Your slip has gone up! Every boat performs differently to added weight and drag and weight distribution. Also a propeller can (depending on tons of reasons) adapt to the added drag while maintaining its efficiency and drop rpm rather than what you experienced.

Ok I'm babbling.

Is your 26B1 stock? Never repaired by anybody?

If so, a 28 Lab will add speed for sure if done right and you run with a light load.
As you can see there are many variable other than................to Lab or not to Lab.

Labbing propellers is specific not routine.

Call anytime and we can explain the specifics..

Brett
