35 Cigarette Mistress 600hp propping Question..

Just did a repower to 547CI 600HP engines, TRS boat.. 85 Cigarette Mistress...598HP@5200 rpm, TQ was 660@4200 and at 5200 the TQ is still 606ft lbs drives spinning out, don't wanna spin in, handles better out...

So far I have one engine 200 rpm off, fixing that now, but wanna see what thoughts are as of props...

boat with old engines went a best ever of 64.8 @4900 with 3 blade quicksilver repitched to 24... approx. 450-470hp...

Now same props last weekend got easy unturned gps of 69.4 port at 5300, stbd at 5500...

I am pretty sure I will end up with a 25P Mirage plus but what else should I look at? A buddy has a set of labbed 24 Bravo 4 blades, would they be worth trying? I am not too comfy with 4 blades and TRS with 600 hp, but maybe???

I am going to do more tuning as I think there is a 70-72 with the 24P but I am starting to pass the peak HP range with them, thinking a 25Mirage plus puts me around 52-5300...

nailit 08-20-2013 09:36 PM

Is your buddy nightlife1970?? He has labbed 24p b1s that sound like they are labbed and cupped to around 25p.. they are on swap shop now!

He is supposed to try to get some cruise #s this weekend so we can estimate pitch. If 25p, they would be good for you, if closer to 24.. better for me and I have 25m+s now that we might be able to work a deal.. just a thought...

Full Force 08-20-2013 09:37 PM

No Frickstyle is local to me and has some....

nailit 08-20-2013 10:15 PM

Either way, labbed 24s pitched up a bit could work for you if your thinking you'll end up at 25m+ s..

Good luck..

Let us know if you would like to try some Mirage + 25's through our test program.

What seems to be best? 3 or 4 blades on a Mistress? Are 4 blades really any harder on the drives if slip factor is same? Or close?

MILD THUNDER 08-27-2013 05:41 PM

Id also consider trying a set of 25P Revolution 4 props. Work awesome on heavy TRS boats.

+1 usually 1 mph faster then a migage +..the trick to keep a try alive on your boat is to wind up the engines and make sure you slip numbers are up and no huge wave hoppin...once thewy get a good bite pop goes the drive..one og my friends use to have a 38 fountain with trs drives and 600 sc's..he has 27 mirage + on the boat went to a set of 26p hydro's and popped both drives the following weekend..got rid of the hydros and stuck with the mirage +

Full Force 08-27-2013 08:31 PM

I get the extra slip on a 3 blade helps drives, but at what MPH cost?

1989mach1 08-27-2013 09:07 PM

Tim if the trs drives r beefer then my bravo 1 x drives I think u will be fine with 4 blades I am turning 28 4 blades on mine. Also I know u there is no way u r going to go with out big water and big air. That will never last with u lol

Full Force 08-27-2013 09:21 PM

I do however think TRS are stronger then Bravos, at the same time the Mistress is a HEAVY boat and I am hard on stuff... lol

Ya tell me about it lol believe it or not mine is not light as a feather eather for a 33. Mine is 9600 dry add water gas and gear I'm at almost 11k

Full Force 08-27-2013 09:52 PM

SAcale it, I don't believe what books say, 33 Bravo Donzi I have a hard time believing its THAT HEAVY... maybe I am wrong, but ..Tommy weighed his Mistress was 11,700 we have same setup with AC and all that... 4-5 ft more boat, heavier layup, we have transmissions and bigger drives... I still don't see the 33 Donzi weighing 11,000 loaded...

1989mach1 08-27-2013 10:03 PM

I will this fall when I pull it and will let u know.

Full Force 08-27-2013 10:05 PM

Weigh trailer first so you know what it is.... I'm curious to see a actual scale weight..

sprink58 08-27-2013 10:07 PM

Been following this and wondering if those of us with heavy deep v bottoms need to stay away from 4 blades due to stern lift. I know with my 255 that with it's sharp entry I dart around like a top water bass lure if bow is down too much. I'm running 23" Mirage plus on B I's and seems to be a fit for me (6200 loaded weight w/825 HP/850 TQ total).

Have you thought about a set of "Seriously" tuned 25" mirage Plus? seems to me with the Cigarette straight bottom you want to keep the bow up to keep hull surface out of the water.

I have never run any 4 blades so I have know experience with them but seems to me 4 blades work against us in a 24* Deep V.

I did already I still need to get tags 2 years later lol so I took it and it is 2100 alone so I will deduct that from total to get just the boat.

MILD THUNDER 08-27-2013 11:12 PM

My buddy smoked a TRS lower gear set this weekend. Running hydro motive 4 blades, 475hp engines .

They can go with any prop and power in TRS, at the same time I also know any prop that has proper slip rate will smoke one, 3 or 4 blade, The goal is most likely gonna be 25 plus 3 blade most of the time, a 4 blade if I wanna do more cruising for a while... not sure I get a handful of guys that ran 4 blades with no issues either, they either break or they don't lol

Rbesola 08-28-2013 07:50 AM

I would think 600hp in a 35 should be well into the 70s. Before i swapped #5s, i was running hp 500s, trs drives, with out of the box 26 pitch b1 4 blades turning out. 70mph at 5200. And that's on a 38'. Never tried 3 blades .

Full Force 08-28-2013 08:10 AM

Almost every tea mistress with 600 up is 70-74 mph... If true 600 hp I made 598 on dyno... Hard to push these Mistress's mid 70's 38 gun will run faster then a Mistress with same power... Takes 700 up to go 80 in one

Rbesola 08-28-2013 08:43 AM

I wasn't positive on the similarities. I thought i had a bathtub!

Full Force 08-28-2013 08:51 AM

Lol we both do... I'm pretty sure Mistress is heavier then a gun...

MILD THUNDER 08-28-2013 09:07 AM

When I had 420's in my 40' Excalibur, never had a problem with the TRS spinning 22p hydromotive 4 blades. Sold that and bought a 402 Formula, with 625's and TRS. That thing tied up next to a 38 Cig would dwarf it. 9'3 beam and 40'2'' long, and 18k lb's boat and trailer. It ran a honest 70-73 on gps, turning 25p revolution 4 blades. Freakishly fast for what it was. Only problem is it would eat RH TRS lowers. In the two years I owned it, I went through two RH lowers, and one upper gear set. And I drove it like a gentleman!

Full Force 08-28-2013 09:28 AM

Guess its all luck!!!

1989mach1 08-28-2013 04:34 PM

lets just face the fact.....no mater how we drive um we will brake $hit and it will cost us a $hit load of $$$$$ it Shure is fun though.

Full Force 08-28-2013 09:05 PM

I faced that fact 15 years ago!!

J-Bonz 08-28-2013 09:14 PM

My pops is rolling 4-blades on a TRS Gun but, Full Force can vouch for how hard my Dad runs it..... Hah

Full Force 08-28-2013 09:32 PM

Pops wouldn't let me run it last weekend, I asked haha

you home this weekend JR???

Full Force 09-02-2013 08:47 PM

Tried a pair of 25P standard Mirage this weekend, went 68@ 5100-5200 depending on trim, I would have thought more speed or at least the same??? engines make same power HP from 5100-5400 within 1 HP.... loses TQ the higher it goes, was very surprised with them results and was not happy, sooooo now what ?? is the 3 blade 24P the ones to run at 5400 for top speed? I still have not tuned engines completely, I wanna get it as fast as I can the way it is, then tweak them a tad...

Should I try the 25 plus? everyone seems to run those over the standard Mirage on these, I don't have any but I can buy some....

MILD THUNDER 09-02-2013 11:06 PM

I tried mirage plus's on my old formula with TRS. Top speed was 66mph, cruising was awful. Immediately took them off and put my 25 revolution 4 blades back on. Cruised better, and ran 70+ everyday. Those 3 blades slipped to much and couldn't carry the 40ft heavy boat . First time I had witnessed a 3 blade being slower than a 4 blade for top speed. The small diameter of the revolution and rake angle just works on a deep x TRS setup.

Full Force 09-03-2013 04:53 AM

My 24's had a 14% slip hydromotive told me, he said that wasn't too bad but to get to 10%... not sure what it was yesterday... I am still torn on having a 4 blade on that big heavy boat...I have a set of 22 Hydromotives to try next time I go to the lake..

frickstyle 09-03-2013 10:19 AM

Did you try the Bravos?

Full Force 09-03-2013 10:50 AM

Not yet just got the second hub yesterday...not going up for two weeks...

Full Force 09-15-2013 03:50 PM

Got my buddys old labbed 25Mirage plus with my parts boat, ran them this weekend, went 70.4 with port engine down 2 rpm, was 5300 stbd, 5100 port, I have a fouled plug I think that wont recover, they are cold plugs, gonna put new ones in next weekend... also after that run coming back I was losing fuel pressure, so that can be it also, got down to 2-3 lbs at one point, soon as we saw that I babied it and it was at 7 the rest of the time, praying nothing got hurt, engine runs fine otherwise...

Full Force 10-31-2013 12:28 PM

Fouled plug turned out to be a broken lifter therefor not firing.... I just got it all fixed and went out yesterday..... Saw in literally flat way water 73.4@5500 both engines with labbed 25 mirage plus... One has a small ding but don't seem to have mattered now them results made me happy!! No engine tuning and flat water.... I was very impressed... Peak engine hp is 5200 but only loses 3 hp between 5200-5500

I have used a set of 25 Mirage plus's you labbed them years ago for a buddy, now I have them, boat went best of 73.4 in FLAT water, 5500 rpm, calculates to 15% slip, that seems decent no??

bbladesprops 11-11-2013 07:51 PM

Full Force,
Yes it is most definitely decent.
I'd need to go back to the original file and dissect the recipe to see if these specific propellers are most appropriate for your set up.
Call me if you want and we can go through that.

Brett

I will have to ask him, it woulda been YEARS ago.... I thin k like 99 or 2000?? they wer eon his 311 Formula...

I was literally in flat water and that sucks for the Mistress, I was floored it went that, didn't expect over 70 that day with flat water... I am not sure what to expect under a 2-3 foot chop, maybe 75??

I am not sure if the cost of better props is worth any gains, If it was only 2 mph not worth the cost?? or you think theres more there???

attaching a pic of dyno sheep from last owner of the engines, I just put these engines in this summer, I think they make a little more hp now, they do make lots of TQ and I bet that is helping a ton carry this big heavy hull....????
