Baja 250 Sport 600 hp Having trouble finding the right prop!!!
Ok real quick, the boat is a 1989 Baja 250 sport. 502 with a small blower. 3.5 psi making 600-620 depending on WOT rpm.
With a 25p mirage plus it will run 75 mph @ 5400 rpm but it blows out if you try and come out of the hole in a hurry. With a 24p Bravo one it has a good hole shot, feels tighter, but at WOT it is spinning to 5700 rpm. I do not want to rev this high!! I have a 27 mirage but it doesn't even try to plane off with this prop. Just blows out. What is going on? And shouldn't the 24p bravo be about the same rpm as the 25p mirage? Help me out here!!! I guess an easy take off is ok as my friend doesn't drag race it or anything, But is there something out there that will stay in the WOT range of the 25p mirage but maybe go a little faster? |
maybe a labbed 26 bravo

why are you trying to hole shot 600 hp? do you hate youre drive?
I ran a labbed 26 on my 272 with a 572. had 28's from CE and BBLADES I never tried pushing it hard out of the hole, the best I ever run was 74.8 I have an XR with std. sporty lower It sounds like youre 3 blade is doing real well id add some cup to it but then youll drop rpms my 26 from ce was my best all around performer I could still run 70-72 full of gear and fuel with 6 passengers CE was gonna add me some more cup in my 26 but I ended up buying a different boat come july and gave up on the Baja hull |
26b1 is closer to 25p..
The 24 is closer to a 23p.. or 23.3 which is the why your turning more.. Try a 26b1, your getting 12% slip so the 4blade might help get it lower, I.e. speed |
If he is doing like I have been trying props, not trying for a hole shot but not wanting to take a1/4 mile to get on plane. You might add a little cup to the 25p mirage plus to help get out of the hole. The bravo 1 four blade will give you stern lift & you might blow it out as well. I thought I knew a little more about props until I started dialing in my Kachina this summer. Eric @ Hering props gave me some free info that makes sense for my application and BBlades are also good guys & should be able to help if your banging your head on the wall. How deep is the propshaft? I assume 1.50 gears? Randy

i tried to spin a 25 mirage on my sport 250 with around 450hp and it blew out everytime so i feel your pain. i am following this thread to see what you learn here

I have a 25p rev4 on my 27 PQ with same power (600-625hp)very good all around prop for me..i find it's hard not to ''blow out'' on startups with a single-engine boat with that kind of power

I see the thread is a few months old, but I would try a 26 Bravo and a 25 REV4.
With 600hp, you should be able to carry the bow just fine without using bow lifting prop like an Mirage+ |

Just a quick note.
We have a test program so you can try without buying. Let us know if this interests you. Call us and we can send you some propellers to try. Brett |
