Trying P5X's on Fountain

Was thinking of trying P5X's on a 42' Fountain Lightning (1993 stock 502's 1.5 Bravos). Labbed 27p no added cup. Now spinning 24p bravos. Would it help cruising or too much pitch??

What are you current sppeds with the 24s? Rpms vs speed, if you have high slip, you could gain cruise with the 5s. Unless your hitting the ReV lmt, even labbed 27s may be a little much with the added blade.

Runs about 62 at 5300. Not too worried about top end....

Looks like your getting alot of slip, 21.4% using 23.6 for the 24p b1 as they run low and I am running same props. I backed into the pitch as I was getting 9.2% with 3 blades...with speeds/rpms with 4 blades.. = corrected pitch..

Anyway, by just using same pitch getting it down to 15% puts your 3800 rpms cruise from 44 to 48. Looks like you could benefit from something that can get your slip down, whether 5 blades or labbing the b1s.. imo

labbing the props actually will add slip ... just saying

Custom labbing doesn't have to add slip.. add rake, cup, etc could all help with slips.

If you are spinning 24 Bravo's to 5300rpms, then there is no way that you will be able to spin 27 Hydro 5 blades.
You need to prop for the proper WOT rpm range no matter what. If not, you are putting way too much load on the engines.
You might be able to spin some 24 5 Blades or 26 Bravos to about 5000rpms.

if you have a set of 5 blades you can try for free go for it but I agree with everyone else 27p is to much, I would take the 24p bravos (if they are stock) and add some cup that will reduce the slip and increase your cruise speed and maybe bring down your top RPM enough to get you in the correct range. As has been said many times before the best thing to do is test a lot of different props so you can see what the boat likes, every boat is a little different, even same model with the same power.

You would like 24 Maximus propellers Labbed at 15.25" diameter.

@Bblades;

Sorry for off topic, but I would really like to know next:
P5X I am see only on the photo and it look like small Maximus.
Please explain in short way diferent betwen P5X and 15,25" Maximus. I yould like to know round blade surface geometry, rake, cup and hub if you have short hub on Maximus.

I have Maximus 15,25"x26" with short hub and it work fantastic, but I would like to hear something round P5X from experts like you.

bye
