High rake 5 blade prop?

I hope all of you are well :)

I am looking for a high rake 5 blade prob being able to be run high and carry the bow well. I currently run a modified cupped Rev4 25 at 82 mph at 6,560 rpms. But it looses grip if I run it high. I still have lots of waterpressure and can rise up 1-1,5 inches more. And that is potential more speed :)

I have been thinking of a Turbo 4bl TXP prop. Although 4bl I have heard it can be run high and still keep the bow due to its blade area and high rake.

Any ideas?

I actually picked up a turbo txp ot4..put it on a 454 22' boat about 4800 lbs loaded. Slip went to 8% it has very large blades or thick and a ton of bite. Abase line was a 19 pitch mirage 5000 rpm with a weak 330 454 and 15% slip. The 23 txp pulled it right down to 4000 that should not have happened that drastically i think i have fuel or carb issue's.

Anyway it has 30 degree's of rake very robust blade's and bite's the water incredibly well...Lots of lift the boat was dancing on its tail.

Yes 28-30 degree's of rake..It is being sold as a bass boat prop that allow's the engine to be run very high..hence the thick blade's. It preformed very well in terms of slip and lift on a 22' mirage 21 dergree hull. It was just the end of the season here and i did not have enough time to sort the old girl out and find out what was going on.

Its has a over the barrell exhaust design which could be of some concern perhaps but the mirage has thru the hull exhasut so i went with it. It does not slip however has the rake and a big bite.

30 degrees of rake, measured by who? Turbo, Precision Propellers, Yamaha, or me?

Brett, with all that rake would the bow be way up in the air like a car doing a wheelie? Someone should start selling wheelie bars for boats! What I'm I missing?

Nice to hear from you Brett! When the sun turns, the boating season starts :) Never ending story. He he.

I started off at 78 mph with my Vrod 350 sci, and I am now consistently running 81,5 mph - and now and then 82 mph. This by testing props and prop heights. And bleeding my steering properly. Gained almost 1 mph doing that. Not bad for a 30 years old boat.

What intrigues me is that I have lots of water pressure when the prop looses bite. 30 psi at least, and the engine needs 20 psi. So this translates to at least 1-1,5 mph higher propheight. And as you know, with my big lower unit, that translates to higher speed if I can keep the boat flying' :) So the question is if I can find a high rake big area blade prop doing the trick. Some have reccommended a 5 bl prop and try to surface it.

Its almost 15 years now Brett we have been pen pals, so its long overdue I come to Florida. Me and Heidi (my wife) went to Catalina Island in October for the 8th time, and had some very nice time over there. I seriously will try to come to Miami Boat Show in Feb, it all depends on the dentist really... I plan to bring my boat over to Florida to upgrade it, and do some poker runs. Its 25 feet, may be its too small. It raced Around Britain back in the hey days with twin XR2's, so it can handle some weather for sure.

I don't disagree with trying a high rake 5 blade. I have built some pretty trick Maximus mods. A few for water sports and a few for race boats in the P classes. You do need to get that big gear case high and surfacing for the best top speeds. This creates a two tiered problem. First we need the case high and next we need to still be able to carry the bow. so more blades and diameter will help to carry the transom and then rake angle, specific cupping and blade design will offer the best trim reaction and transom leverage. Kind of a tough combination. 14.5" diameter Max Labbed correctly might just do it. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees. You of all people know that.
