Juzzi, of everything typed in this thread the part id pay most attention to is how car engines rarely make good boat engines. Try to get the cam card from that build and post it in the General Q&A section. It might save you a complete rebuild.

Will the cam choise make any difference in choise of prop?
...or are you trying to see if the engine/cam is suited for boat use at all?

...if I remember correctly even the GM is offering marine LS engines nowdays...and supercharged versions as well...named LSA.

Since its a LS1 and not your bread and butter sbc I think comparing LS1 / SBC cams is relatively pointless if you don't have some reference point but here you go...

its a A&A Corvette Performance stage 2 blower camshaft.

Hydraulic Roller, custom grind. Noticeable lope in 346 engine and slight lope in 402 and larger.

Duration @ 0.050" Intake 224 / Exhaust 232

Valve Lift Intake .581 / Exhaust .595

Lobe Seperation Angle...116

It can pass the emissions so that should indicate that reversion "should" not be a problem...(small overlap)

Other than that I know its pretty close to the max duration what should be used in boats...especially with wet exhaust

Ok I'll throw my 2 cents in!

I can understand the desire to keep the Alpha 1 for a while - but with that much horsepower we all know that you are going to melt that sucker. The problem with that is that you could be in a situation in which it wouldn't be safe for those on board to have the drive go bad -- e.g. a couple of miles off shore with bad weather on the horizon....

I know that I'm anal retentive but if there is one thing that I've learned is that a marine environment is not that forgiving and anything that I can do to minimize an issue I try to do before it happens

Again my 2cents

I "know" that the alpha 1 life expectancy is short...but its mostly/only to be used to test the boat/engine...just long enough to check the engine programming and leaks etc. (for as long it takes me to gather money to Bravo 1 or Blackhawk)

Although...the boat IS small/light....and no holeshots or jumping and motor that doesn't have huge torque low down...so the alpha 1 "should" be ok for testing at least.

Most if not all the testing is done with two boats ...so if something mecahical breaks we will have backup boat (within few miles away) to give us a tow to the harbor.
And the boating seas here in Turku, southwest of Finland is/are one of the best in the world...its securered with thousands islands and penisulas so NO big seas/waves and harbors are always within few miles away and 3g phone coverage everywhere...
