5100 RPM's?
 
I have a 24' Ultra with 496 mag and bravo 1 drive with a 1.5 gear ratio. I was able to get some speed runs in last night and was getting about 66mph at 5100ish rpm. I know that's just outside the recommended range so I'm looking for some guidance on props. It currently has a stainless Bravo 1 24 p (48-831912) and I've been through a couple different prop selectors but to be honest, I don't really know what I'm looking at. It is suggesting jumping to a 26p prop and somehow suggesting that I'd pick up almost 10 mph on top end (is that even possible??) Just want something to get me back down into the correct rpm (47-4800) range and will still cruise well and a bump in top end wouldn't hurt. A simple jump to a 26p?

I don't think your top end speed would change much at all going up in pitch with reduced rpms but your mid-range cruise would probably improve 1-3 mph. If your speed run was done low on gear/fuel then you'll likely not hit that rpm often anyway suggesting your already prop'd perfect for the boat IMO.

It was just 2 adults and a 3 yr old. probably about 50 gal of fuel on board. if it would improve cruise a few mph with friends and gear on board then it might be worth it but any type of high speed runs will likely only be me and one or two other adults. i just don't want to risk over reving it every time I want to open it up.

Is it a 496 HO????

If its a regular 496 mag/375hp, then a 26 Bravo is probably the way to go.

yes its the 496 mag (non HO) think the 26 will bump me down a few hundo and still maintain or slightly increase top end? is there any reason to look at anything other than the 4 blade Bravo 1 26p?

There is another issue here a regular mag has a rev limiter at 4950, so either your tach is off or your ecm has been modified or you have an HO, but I think a 26p will get you 1-2 mph and bring the rpm's down slightly. I think the HO's cut out is at 5150 so you should be getting a beep that your are over/close to over the rev limit.

well it's def not the HO...not sure about ECM work though. bought the boat last year. there were no beeps or anything at 5100 and I'm not even sure I had it all the way down either. :confused: any way for me to test the tach?

do you have regular gauges maybe you only get the warning beeps if you have smartcraft. I wouldn't worry about it they spin the engines faster with changes to the ecm and they live just fine. I'm sure somebody can tell you how to test a tach here I don't know that answer.

You can purchase inductive tachs online for quite cheap. Under 100 dollars for a variety of them.
We have test props so you can try a 26 Bravo1 from us without having to purchase anything. I think this would be the best move. We can discuss the results and determine all the options you have from there.
We can also suggest some other possible options.
