Bravo XR prop installation question
I am changing out my old prop for the new on my Bravo XR and I can not see where any of the removed washers have a cup as I understand one is supposed to. I have never had an XR, does the washer flatten out over time? Is this a problem?
Thanks for the help. Padraig |
Cup washer is a spring/tension washer, it should have a cup. Keeps pressure against the nut.

Thanks for the help. Padraig Might be time for a new nut and washer set, cheap enough |
Thanks, I had laid them on a table top and both seemed flat although one was thinner. This time I flipped them both over and could see they were slightly tipped up at the edge and would rock some if I pushed on the edges.
Does it matter which way the cup goes on the shaft? The Merc manual shows the Belleville (cupped) washer in the middle but says nothing about which way it goes in. Opinions??????? Padraig |
The simple answer is the guy before you used regular washers. All my 1.25 hub, washers clearly say "this side out" or at least "out". Like 4 bus said, just buy new ones.

When we designed the bellview washer kit at Mercury Racing we tested the cup both ways on the shaft. Either way proved to offer locking resistance. The common method was to have the cup or concave side towards the drive unit. That's how I always do it.
The spring tension on the cupped washer can fade over time. If the cup is gone and the nylock feature of the nut allows you to install the nut by hand, it is time for a replacement kit. Here is a link to the kit on our web site. http://bblades.com/shop/accessories-...-prop-nut-kit/ Thanks, Brett |
Thanks everyone I ended up putting it on as Brett suggested. I did think it strange that Merc did not say which way to install it.
