Need help to find the correct prop to my Formula 242SS
 

I have a 1988 242 SS Bravo 1 bottom painted, 502 aprox 500 HP with a Bravo1 24 pich prop

I spin out 4950 rpm which is aprox 500 - 600 less then it should, from what I have been told.

Speed 58 mph

I was sure that the bravo 1 24 pich prop should have been a good choice and I expected minimum 64 - 65 mph

What is wrong ?? Obvious the prop, yes but I find it strange that 500 hp not is capable to spin 5500 rpm
With my set up ?

What will be the perfect choice ? I hope to see as mentioned 64 - 65 mph top speed. Nice acelration and good performance

Today the I have 3100 rpm 35 mph 4100 rpm 46 mph

I assume your drive is deep try a 3 blade such as Mirage Plus 23

Your slip numbers are very high, over 20%, try a different prop, that one may be messed up.

Yes Older Formulas have the drives very deep. Is it so that when the drive is deep it is better with a 3 blade
Prop as a Mirage?

I have my hands on a Mirage 23 plus and will try it one of the next days :-)

I hope the result will be better then what I am doing with my present set up....

Anyone know if the older Formula boats have high slip numbers ?

25p labed mirage plus 3 blade . Just start with a stock one and have it labed to reach 5300 rpms

I owned a 242 1987 for 5 years. It had the 350 Mag small block. Best prop by far was 21 pitch Mirage Plus.

I have tested two other props now

Mirage 23 plus same speed faster on plane, better Acceleration ( same rpm ) ??

Bravo1 22 pitch same speed, far the best all over prop so far. (same rpm) 59 mph

Maybe I have a revlimit on 5000 rpm, find it strange that all 3 props have more or less same rpm ... ??
