cleaning SS props
What is the best stuff to use to get that rust look of of ss props get them back to a decent finish. JOHN SR
|
CLR and/or steel wool. Not sure if you call polished or satin finish 'a decent finish.' LOL.
|
Tried the SOS pads, before posting, it didn't do much. :(.. I figured that some of the guys might know a chemical or something that would take them back to a good sine.. Kinda like they do for aluminum tanks on rigs..

muratic acid, instantly brand new
you can buy it at any pool place, or just buy On-Off bottom cleaner same stuff. |
An acid like pstorti says.
Don't use SOS or any carbon steel on stainless. You'll embed iron and the stainless will eventually look worse than when you started. The acid dissolves the iron. Only use stainless on stainless. |
MAAS metal polish with a soft rag too.
|
Zing which is an acid-based aluminum pontoon cleaner.
|
Excellent thanks guys. Had some on/off bottom cleaner, put it on there, like new again.. :drink:

Just out of curiosity, do you really want to put acid on metal props? Don't the instructions on the On&Off bottle indicate to keep away from metals? I always cover my trailer for that reason when I clean the hull with that stuff.
|
I'm pretty sure your trailer is not made of stainless steel, that warning is for aluminum. won't hurt the props a bit :)
