Those little rubber strips in a Mercury Flo-Torq hub
Necessary? Or do they just dampen vibration. Where to get some? Thanks.
|
Go to mercury or look it up on bams site. They sell them in a kit
|
I had one missing and had a real bad vibration around 1000 RPM's.
|
My mechanic (also an accomplished O/B race engine builder) told me they're just foot protectors... they keep the hub from falling freely from the prop. However, I could see how not using all three could hurt the balance of the prop.

Replace them. If they weren't needed they wouldn't be there.
MY 2¢ |
LOL.
They are called snubber strips. There is no part number for them. The ones BAM sell are for a different insert. We/BBLADES sell them, the ones you want. Nobody else does. There is a long story behind them. If you search on this forum you might find volumes of information I have written concerning the beginning and current usage of them. We developed that insert in the mid / late 90's while I was still at Mercury. Call us anytime and we will help you to fix and or replace them. Brett |

We sell the delrin kits too. You might want to verify the desired parts before offering the wrong purchase. We sell the nut kit too. 3 washers and the nut But that nut kit is for the HD kit as well as the delrin kit you are suggesting, not the K2 kit in question. We have the rubber kits because we specialize in propellers. If others have these parts for sale, they do not purchase them from Mercury. Brett |
Brett,
Is it true that some inserts have cord on the corners and some have flat strips on the flats? What are advantages between the aluminum and Delrin inserts? How much power are the Delrin ones rated for? Thanks, Jeff |

Thanks, Jeff Yes there are stainless steel inserts with rubber snubber strips (15 splines) as well as HD stainless inserts (19 spline) with plastic delrin strips. The solid inserts are stainless steel not aluminum. The Delrin/plastic inserts are rated up to 400 HP. I think 300 is a better HP level to limit at with the torque levels we are now seeing. Brett |
