New Mercury Enertia ECO props
I have recently read in a boating magazine how these props out performed the equivalent in Mirage Plus and Revolution 4's. The biggest pitch is 23p right now. Has anyone had any experience with them yet? and is there the chance they would be offered in a larger pitch and work good on sport boats?

I saw the same article too bad they don't come in higher pitches, plan on talking to the Mercury prop guys at the miami show in a couple of weeks to see what they say. I tried Mirage + on my boat but it didn't like them.

Talked to Scott the mercury prop guru, he said the ECO props are only for outboard boats since they have a thin barrel and blades. He said the with the torque the diesel engines make he is afraid the blades would rip right off the barrel. So I guess the same problem would arise with any big block powered boats.

I tried one recently on a 25' outboard powered boat. It worked as advertised. Quicker to plane then the Tempest Plus, better mid-range economy and decent top end. We lost 1.5 MPH on top but gained 2 MPH and 15% efficiency at 4,000 rpm. Its a bigger diameter prop than the Tempest or Rev 4 and hooks up really well. Prop seemed to be more of an overall lifting prop vs. the bow lifting characteristic of the Tempest. Not as much stern lift as the Rev 4.

So as we move forward this year we will see more and more data as to the performance of this propeller. I have been patiently waiting and listening as well as working on some Lab recipes. What I can tell you is it is performing quite well in the intended applications. The basic physical attributes are sound. More blade area moves more water at mid range cruise speeds and therefore the efficiency at cruise improves, More blade area at WOT creates some drag and top end speeds depend on how well the previous propeller being used was hooked up. The propeller failing on stern drive boats remains to be seen. Remember, Mercury has touted the ability of the X7 alloy to be able to withstand the loads of thicker castings. So, it may work well on stern drives in a deep V boat desiring more bow lift that doesn't weigh too much with low drive heights in the correct HP range. ok get some out there and see if they hold up I would like to try them. I am running 26 bravos with a lot of cup so I don't even know if they would be enough prop for me anyway. Although I have a feeling if Scott say they won't work he is probably right.

They will work. Durability might be a question under extreme HP situations as with any investment cast propeller. They are not paper thin however. Eco's do have more blade area that can put more leverage and stress on the casting.
These props are actually main line props not Merc Racing props. Scott's group doesn't actually work on these props. Merc Racing used to, and we currently thin propellers thinner than the Eco casting for high power applications without failure. There just isn't enough data as of yet. Is there anyone that has tested the enertia eco compared to the original enertia? I would like to know the rpm difference between the two props in 21p.the 22p enertia is just on the rpm limit but i think the larger blade 23p eco could be to big for my boat

There is a 100-150 rpm drop going to the ECO from the Enertia of the same pitch.

Are you testing or purchasing the prop? Brett I am testing it on a 89 formula 242 ls with a new merc racing scorpion 377hp and bravo drive. Currently getting 97 km gps at 5450 rpm with enertia 21. Rpm should be between 4800 and 5200 |

Well test results did not go as planned.
For some reason the eco 23p starts cavitating on my bravo drive when coming on plane and all i got out of it was 4300 rpm at 91km. Thats a 1100 rpm difference with the enertia 21?? I am putting it up for sale and going to order a enertia 22. |
