#6 prop

What on a #6 prop holds the nylon bushing in place to keep from sliding forward into the shaft bearing ?

SFOcean 03-31-2015 01:21 AM

You need a keeper which is a flat plastic split ring.

That is what I thought ,what can be done if there is no grove for the ring to go into ?

There has to be a groove or you have a very old tapered version propeller.

Some of the old props didn't use a sleeve, stainless hub ran directly on the propshaft. It was hard on propshafts, the sleeve helps and it allowed for one prop bore to fit #6 and 3,4,5 propshafts with different thickness sleeves.

There is no groove that I can see , If it was an old version what would the inside dimension be ?

Falcon 04-07-2015 08:54 PM

Don't remember the propshaft diameter but the prop bore would just slide over the shaft with little clearance. How old is the prop, Merc Racing prop or other?

I have no idea who manufactured them or how old they are , the info stamped on the hub is 174F 35 C5 They are a 4 blade with 1.875 id and no tapered that I can see ,tip to tip they are 16.875 with a 15* rake

Falcon 04-08-2015 09:46 PM

1.875 id is the correct id for a direct fit on a Six propshaft, no room for a sleeve. Could be an early Kiekhaefer or other manufacturer on the prop.

Are you running this on a #5? Or a #3 big shaft? They are a little smaller than a #6 and would need a bushing.

I am in the middle of converting my boat to arneson asd7 drives , so I am thinking about taking the props over to the machine shop and see about boring the end to accept the bushing and C clip .

Ok now I see. think I may have a bushing to measure and a retainer to measure ill try to post size.

Thank you I just want to see how much material will have to be removed and if it will weaken the props too much .

14 apache 04-11-2015 04:21 PM

bushing is 2.050 diameter. 1.280 long and the plastic clip is .060 thick needs to be cut about .075+ deep

Thanks for answering, my props are all 105 miles from me.

green lightning 04-13-2015 07:43 AM

How thick are the sides of the props were the bushing slides into ? I am trying determine if I am better off boring the prop or turning down the bushing .

bbladesprops 04-13-2015 09:49 AM

You can bore the propeller. We used to do that often when I was at Merc Racing. They do not offer that service anymore. We do not offer that service at BBLADES either. We do keep the delrin bushings and clips in stock if you need them. The bushing id's are 1.75" and 1.8"

LOCTITE 37424 640 High Strength Sleeve Retainer was also a backup to the clip
