28 SS Cig

I have an old 1976 28ss Cig ... I am running two dart SBC 414's with a mild cam. Boat weights 7000 with half a tank of fuel and standard gear on board. . Old 1.5 deep TRS's... I currently am running a standard 23p Mirage x 14 7/8..b Running 5200 rpm @ 68 mph. I have just recently purchased a set of 25p Cleavers to play around with but notice that its diameter is only about 14.25 curious as to what I can expect rpm wise and speed if any one could help with the info that is given. How will the smaller diameter of the cleaver verse increased pitch effect rpm and speed? Also does the Cleaver need a washer or bushing for the prop shaft on the rear? I have one for the front with lock washer and lock nut.. But it didn't come with one for the rear and all my other props have one on front and rear? Thxs for the help!

How well are you carrying the bow with the mirage?

Shalom 04-30-2016 09:15 PM

No issues with bow.... I actually really like how the standard Mirages run the boat. I also have a set of 25P Mirages pluses with added cup that I want to give a shot...

After trolling through other posts.. it seems that as a rule of thumb every 1/4 inch in diameter increases rpm by 100....

I may be interested in a 25 Cleaver if they don't work out for you. Standard rotation.

Yes, there is a a thick thrust washer used between prop and drive. I'm assuming solid hub right - as all Quicksilver cleavers I see.

We;; you have both ends of the spectrum coverd... the cleaver wont life the bow, the mirage with added vup will lift the bow

Thanks... That's what I thought also....r

Phragle, to give more detail... with the standard 23's and drive fully tucked in... the bow seems to nearly point down somewhat. But with a small amount of trim it comes up easily. And yes the props I have due cover both ends of the spectrum. I just want to see which one performs the best. I have heard that the Cleaver will lift the stern and sometimes that is a good thing. I like a fast smooth ride when possible.... I do have bow concerns with the Cleavers. After a test run, I guess I will know...r

Can you post a picture of the drive end of the prop? I cannot remember exactly what the thrust washer should look like but once you jog my memory it will come back to me.

If they are solid hub cleavers there should be a spline washer and sold washer in front of the nut.

See the little box at the bottom right. I think you will find the cleavers to be faster than the Mirages on that boat.

Back in the day I had a 27 Magnum sport and my buddy had a 28 Cig. My Magnum would run right at 70 with 350's and my friends Cig would run right at 80 with some 400's he had built.

What is the HP of those motors? My 79 SS had 454's with maybe 370-400 horse each. I tried a few different prop combos and the best by far was 4 blade hydromotive's was at 71 on GPS @ 5300 RPM. I cannot remember the pitch right now I will talk to my buddy I sold it to and find out if you are interested. Mine did not like the Cleavers at all, I put the 4 blades on it was a whole new boat I actually wished I didn't sell that boat.
