Prop Opinions

Hey guys been lurkin around here for a bit and finally decided to join and hear some of your expert opinions.
I have a 93 Baja Outlaw 24 with a 540EFI that makes 500hp/600tq. Previous owner put motor in and had a labbed 23p mirage plus on it, he is a mercury tech as well. And the boat will top out 71-72 trimmed out @5400ish rpms. I was talking to a guy yesterday at our local fun run and he was telling me that rpm is way too high and I should either be running a 25p 3 blade or 26p 4 blade. Also according to engine dyno sheet it looks like motor makes peak hp at 4800rpm. Previous owner said motor is good to 5800rpm. So should I try something with the props or leave as be?
Thanks!

Are you getting that speed off a GPS??
I had a 93 24OL with a hopped up 454mag to about 425hp and spun a labbed 23 MIrage Plus to 5400rpms to about 66 mph.

The WOT rpm you should be running depends on the specifics of the engine. 5400rpms is really not an issue.
You may be faster with 25 Mirage Plus depending on the hp and torque curves.
The Mirage Plus will be the fastest top end prop, but a Bravo 1 4 blade is much better getting on plane and at cruise speeds.

Yea that speed is on GPS. And the motor was built strong 502 stroked to 540. I just thought I was doing fine with what I had. Planeability and acceleration are great as well. The guy couldn't believe i only had a 23p on it so that's why I was wondering what others opinions are. What would going to a 25 do for me rpm and speed wise?

"The guy" may not know what he is talking about. On a custom engine, the dyno sheet shows where it should be propped.
Do you know what ratio your drive is?? If its a 1.5, your propslip numbers are really low for a 24 OL.. I'm guessing you might have a 1.36 drive ratio.

The drive is a bravo 1 with XR upper gears 1.50ratio and stock bravo 1 lower. Engine was ran up to 5200rpm on engine dyno. Previous owner was very knowledgeable so that's why I figured everything is dialed in the way it should be. Engine runs strong at 5400 and doesn't sound like it's near the rev limiter
So I was thrown off by this other guy saying that the 23p isnt the right prop for the setup.

A 540 cube engine and ONLY putting out 500 HP - sounds like a stock engine to me. That engine should be upwards of 600 HP with the right parts.
Heck I was at 650 HP out of 509 cubes and that was with a cam that I thought was too small.
5400 RPM is very safe. If you put a bigger prop on it you will actually load the engine and drive more. This could cause problems also.

I guess it's more on the mild side. Idk exact cam specs but was told it's a mild cam.

And yea that's what I was kinda thinking too so I'm just gonna stay with the 23p.
