BBlades 5 Speed
 

Brett hopefully you read this and can answer this question. How do your new 5 Speed props differ from some Herring 5 blades. The previous owner tried a set of Herring 30's that were 15 3/8" and had phenomenal top end, but strained getting on plane. However, these props had the defuser rings cut off, which I would expect to hinder out of the hole performance.

These will be on an Active Thunder 37 with 525's

Our propellers are quite different.
Our trailing edges on BBLADES have a radius to them that helps planing and efficiency at low and mid ranges. Our rake angle is progressive which also helps these attributes.
We have a more rounded tip which offers better planing and trim reaction or bow carrying help.
The Hering round ear props are very nice propellers but are really cleavers with a rounded tip. The early ones didn't even have tip cup. This is why the Herings were fast on high X dimensions surface piercing with a efficient hull.
Either prop can be the faster top end depending since different boats prefer different geometry's and these props are definitely different.

After I cut the bell off of my props It made it more difficult to plane. I sealed the exhaust opening at the top of the lower section and this made the boat get on plane like it had a bell.

Brett - Would my 2001 26 Daytona be faster with a cleaver style 5 or 4 blade prop.

Right now I have silent choice on my boat, and I really think that along with no diffuser really hindered the Hering props for acceleration. I'm hoping that the extended hubs help. If I have time, I'm going to remove the silent choice, which should further help out. Steve- It sounds like eliminating the air around your prop helped!

If these don't work- then I'm going to be trying out a set of 5 speeds!

It really depends on the boat. Cleaver props are more sensitive to weight loads. They also create less bow lift. However, cleavers also have less drag and run the best on the surface.
So,if you can get a cleaver to hook up well, it will be faster on your Daytona hull.
I most situations though, we have found round ear props to be the better overall performer.

Do you have cleaver props in your test program?
Larger diameter than a Bravo?
My -3 IMCO lower is clearanced to spin a Maximus 5 blade

The only cleavers we have for testing are some #6 style propellers in our CR program.
We will have a BBLADES R5 available this summer made from our 5-SPEED. It will be along the lines of the Max5.

What would you like to know? It will be an outboard version 5 blade in 14.75" - 15.25".
We can also produce the Max 5 in house as they are made from the Maximus castings. We can produce them for a better price point as well.
