Sunsation 288 SSR Prop Recommendations

Hello

I have a 09 Sunsation 288 SSR with the 496 HO. I am thinking about getting a new prop and would like the groups input.

I am running a 24p B1 prop. RPM vs Speed info is below. Boat weighs about 4500 pounds. I usually keep the fuel tank full so assume about 90 gallons of gas in the tank plus some gear. So maybe another 1000 pounds for a total weight of about 5,500.
RPM----------------Speed (MPH)
2000 RPM---------12.5 mph
2500 RPM---------20.5 mph
3000 RPM---------27 mph
3500 RPM---------37 mph
4000 RPM---------50 mph
4500 RPM---------58 mph
4850 RPM---------64/65 mph

If I trim the boat more I can get up to 5150 RPM (Rev Limiter). But I will lose a MPH or two.

Time to plane if I use the Tabs is about 8.7s and if I don’t use the tabs it takes about 10.6s. The prop does cavitate for an instant when getting on plane. It happens when the nose starts leveling back out again.

I have googled props for the 288 a few times. Seems many would agree that the B1 props seem to be a good combination for the boat. I have also read that some guys run 26p and 28p.

Past owner has said the boat would go 72mph. I have read some others get that speed. Have also read that others run more like 68-69.

Wondering if it is possible to get in the low 70s with a prop change?

I believe the 288's came from the factory with a 26P Bravo 1.At least that's what mine was set up with. 496HO you should be seeing 68-70MPH.
I have an 05 288 MCOB. Pulled the 496HO and stepped up to a 525EFI, running a 28P Bravo 1. Boat does 78-79MPH all day long.

Joe and Wayne pretty well dial their boats in and know the boat well. Call the factory and ask them what they put on your set up. They will have records, just have your hull ID number available.

Thanks for the information.

I talked to the factory. They told me that the 496 HO boats came with the 24P and the 502 boats came with the 26P.

I wonder if the 26P would get me a few more MPH if I could get to the same RPM. Seems mid range cruise would be faster if I look at the math right.
