PQ280 Prop Choice

Guys,

So, after the rebuild last winter, and the cam swap and other changes made this year, and final tune worked out, the engine is running strong. Over this last winter, I picked up a labbed Bravo30 after reaching out to Brett about the labbing. I had really high hopes. The leading edge had been thinned nicely, so I figured I’d really swing it. While I can turn it with ease, I’m not getting anything out of it. I’m still running about what I was before the engine failure that lead to the rebuild; not quite, actually. Prior to, we were running a consistent 76-77GPS, and I could swear I saw 78 once or twice on those perfect conditions days. Now, with a stronger engine and “more prop”….

I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure a fair bit of the cup has been removed from the trailing edges, and it’s killing the grip. I know it really likes to try and blow out during the later stages of planing, and I have to really baby the throttle to get it to lay down after without continuing to blow out. Once we’re underway, it’s good. Cruise is still about the same. I know I can swing more prop, as I’m still at 4000RPM @ just a stitch above half throttle, 4500 with damned little more throttle, and 5K before 3/4 throttle.

I really need to try a stock 30. Any suggestion of other options? 5B? Hydromotive?

Thanks. Brad.
