80's Top Gun Cig Restoration Project

Dear fellow powerboat enthusiasts,

Since 1 and a half years I am working on the development and the financing of a very special project.
It has always been my dream to build a powerboat, that I have set up in terms of engine and propulsion, interior and general styling.
I have been boating in the mediterrainian for over 15 years now and I always wanted my own deep V powerboat.
I fell in love with the 38' Top Gun model by cigarette and would like to use its hull as basis for my endeavour.
I would like to buy a used hull from the late 80' maybe early 90's, to restore, refit and repower in germany.

My question to the powerboat community is: How feasible is this idea given potential constraints?

I have looked at the market and there are great offers. I am however concerned with the quality of the hulls and potential defects.

Has anyone got experience with restoring old Cigarettes, or expertise regarding hulls.

I would like to have the boat on the italian coast, ready, fast and strong enough to take a real pounding if conditions permit.

Could you please advise me, or inform me about the particularities of the 38' hull built in those years and how safe they are for repowers and durability.

Thank you for your help

best regards,

Tino

Cigarette hulls are solid, the worst thing you may run into is a wet/rotten transom do to leaks

I have a 90 38 T.G. And it handles big water like champ...

Thanks Joe, that gives me faith in the quality of the hulls.

However is anyone aware of other potential dangers or defects except for the transom?

Do you know how much a stripped hull without engines and drives weighs?

What if i was to repower the Cig with Diesels, has anyone got experience with that?

Post this in the Cigarette section.... Lots of people with a lot of knowledge there.

If you have the balls for it, i am selling my Aeromarine IX Hull, Cigarette 36 Dry Martini.
I have another boat plus i don't have anymore time to fix her....it's a Complete restoration but in my opinion the best Hull ever built.
It's already in Italy, ready to start a restoration.
