hatch 2001 Baja

I just bought a 2001 Baja 232. I noticed the forward hatch opens to the stern. Is this normal on this boat or did the previous owner screw up the positioning?

After running the boat, I fugure that at 70MPH if the hatch flips up and is facing forward there goes the hatch cover and it would take your head off.

We called it a deck missle at 70! Facing forward is nice for working the anchor like my dads 83' Nova that runs 35 mph, but at Baja we were trained for liability reasons that "if it can happen" "it will".
