Engine compartment Stringers
Has anyone had a problem with 88-90 Panther Stringers cracking? They are not very stought to begin with! Not wet, just cracked! They don't look heavy enough to begin with! I was thinking of taking out conpletely, glassing/ bedding in 5/8" marine plywood and adding 2.5" stringers on top. The other problem is it appears that there isn't a lot of room from the bottom of the bilge to the oil pans! Looking for fixes.

My 86 panther stringer and transom were wet! And the diagnal stringers were delaminating from the bottom of the hull.

Raise the x dimension 2", you'll gain more oil pan clearance and from what I hear those hulls respond very well.

single best mod I ever did to my Scarab was raise the X dim two inches. Not so much that the drive is higher by itself but it allows you to run a good prop (B1) where it was designed to be. My boat was completely different, carried better, responded to trim better, ran rough better and had a significantly higher cruise speed just to name a few. your stringers are fine at 3/4" but if you want to beef them up a bit you can double it up at the mount. 2.5" stringers would overkill and quite heavy, the center stringer should be a double but not the outside ones. no point in adding unnecessary weight. |
Just don't screw them to the bottom of the boat.:eekdrop:
