She's up and running been enjoy it the last few weeks after blowing a headgasket 4th of july weekend.
Have some much needed prop work todo, but right now its turning a 21p 3 blade mirage at 68mph at 5700rpm on 7.6 pounds of boost. Cruises at 3000rpm at 31mph, couldn't be more happier with it. Have some small items to figure out still but for now I'm going to enjoy it and worry about those over the winter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_evzDbJoaKU |

Do you have pics of the middle pontoon build and the lifting strakes on the outside pontoons? what horsepower do you estimate you are putting out?

Best I can do right now, You can see the inner and outer strakes along with 12" flat bottom. Boat handles amazing well at speeds. A few weeks ago I was in some rough water with her, not Lake MI rough but rough for my area, good 2ft rollers. My wife and I head up to the north end of the lake (10+Miles ride) to get thru some channels. I was a little worried about how wet and rough the ride was going to be and I told her if she wasn't happy I would turn around. Popped the boat up on plane, set her at about 3krpm and 30mph and it was a amazing ride. Very little spray and no bouncing around. I have a few smaller 19 or so foot v-bottom boats next to me for the ride and it didn't look like much fun, one even drop back and follow my wake for most the ride. After blowing the headgaskets out 4th of july weekend I brought the boat back home, tore it down and fixed a few issues, Being this is a pontoon it needs to be quiet when crusing around the lake, but I didn't want to give up the awesome sound of a v8 at 6,000rpm going thru a twin turbo so I did what everyone in the right mind would do and make exhaust cut outs. :) http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...pstg1l0ed1.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps6mbhxd83.jpg Next up was a swim platfourm, I had one very similar to this one but made out of composite decking, it was heavy and look kind of ugly. One late night at work I bent and weld this girl up, Its all alum and powdercoated, Not in love with the white so I might be changing it over the winter to black http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...pspakl9e5s.jpg You can also see the boat has been named, After 4yrs Also had a buddy cut some stickers out to help brake up the all black look. I'm not a big sticker guy but I like these for the most part, the turbo might be getting pealed off not sure yet http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...pstfibqp7w.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psgd1gzalq.jpg Also finished the rear hatch so its all hidden from the fun police on the lake http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...pskbum7cj2.jpg |
This is one of my favorite build threads. You have accomplished better results in your home garage then some of the major manufacturers have with major development investments. Well done my friend.
May I ask how complicated the engine build is? Is it an off the shelf turbo kit and computer? which LS did you start with? I forget what drive you are running. Thanks |
Thanks, there has been many late nights with this build
The motor is a "junkyard" 5.3l genIII only thing that has been changed is ls7 cam, yellow valve springs, and High flow oil pump. Turbo are 100% custom. I started with turbonetics super 60's and made my own adapters to go from the PCM manifolds the the t3 flange. Then I wrapped the exhaust housing so I could water cool it. I'm using Holley HP EFI. I have used a ton of aftermarket ECU in both marine, automotive, and snowmobile world and I can say with out a doubt that the holley system is super simple to use. It really is plug and play. Using a Bravo 1 drive. Just like anything the need for speed only get worse the faster you go, I have everything in my cart on summit right now to build a badass 6.0l ls that can hold 1000hp and it really wouldn't cost that much (under 4k) the thing that sucks is getting a drive that I COULD push that much HP thru I can afford. Will see what the winter brings, My wife and I are expecting another kid here the end of yr so I don't want to bight of to much right now as that will keep me busy for atleast a yr till I can get back in the garage at nights. |
Engine Pod
Hey I know this is an old post but I was wondering if you have the dementions of the pod you mad for the engine? |
I do what dimensions, are you looking for as it really going depend on what your outer toons size is.
|
I have a whole drive train out of a maxim. It’s a V8 basically the floor is shot so I am stripping the whole boat and I want to put iron the pontoon. It’s a 21ft with 24ft toons on it and I still have the 21 ft toons. So I can build it with the 3rd toon. Your toon is awesome and I want to build one. I have the big parts I just was wondering if I can have the CAD for the V8 if you have it? Can I give you a call to talk to you about it if you don’t mind? |
looks crazy fun
|
The center
What's the sizes on that center pod ?
|
looks awesome! great job polishing those toons!
|
