Nova Marine 24 CC Update....finally......

Wasnt going to post pics till it was done. (Call me superstitous) Last time I did...well, lets just say my life got chaotic. (Mildly)
But, today was a great day and things are going to start really moving quickly now, so what the heck.
We shot the White Primer over the Yellow High Build on the cap & around the hullsides, and oh my God...am I stoked.
The engine box (3rd pic) & console are about done. Box just needs some final fairing and a water channel, and the console some final coring inside.
There's been a few change of plans. The air vents....& I still havent decided on self-bailing or not. The mystery is: how she's going to sit in the water.
Stay tuned!

Looking good!!!

Self bailing it is.
Little more progress since the last post...heading towards the spray booth very soon.

Depth & reflectivity = Progress.
Console was a few weeks back, hullsides this weekend.
Apologies for the picture's lighting & background, it is atrocious. She was on her way out of the booth before I could get a pic. At least she doesnt blend in to her surroundings anymore over in a storage building.

More paint...more progress...Coming together now.
Heck, there was even some absurd discussion on the notion of throwing it in the water....like soon!

Slight progress....out from paint (for now), doing some rigging and thinking I might just make it out to Raystown this year......maybe.......

Optical illusion....it is right where it needs to be:)

Two steps fwd. Plenty of new hardware added, but still have lots of hinge work to do...which is always a PITA.
Rubrail is still in transit.....& next week: start bending pipes and squaring away the metal work.
Of all thing, trailer tires went extra innings (why is that?) A decent D rated trailer tire is like unheard of.

I like the Accon cleats, the Boat Buckles should make life easier. The flush fuel fill and vent worked out awesome....
http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/a...nePics2137.jpg

We have (some) color. Plans for the bottom have changed for the 100th time....more on that later. Didnt want a popup cleat on the bow, and found some pretty cool LED Nav lights. The horn in the console worked out great for looks, but sounds like a sick goose. Oh well...
http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/a...nePics2140.jpg

Threw the doghouse in to see if my tape measure still worked....its big & heavy, exactly as planned...

High Cetane 07-26-2014 06:41 AM

As soon as its dry, its gettin wet...

The bottom was sprayed this week. The plan changed to Interlux Epoxy.
Disregard the tape, temporary cover for dirt & water while she cooks outside.

Made it to the water. A minor bug or 2 to work out, but progress, is progress.

dereknkathy 09-03-2014 07:32 PM

there is a wellcraft version of this boat sitting in gormleys marina westville nj. sign on it says free. single engine pre-alpha cuddy. looks like it hasn't been washed in a decade. if somebody sees this and wants to try to recreate yours or leave the layout as brownie designed it...

frickstyle 09-05-2014 10:10 AM

Sweet project, way cool, and practical.

WOW -- I am impressed-- I wish I had your talent and time to "play". You did a phenomenal job. I think the neatest was the kids tubing!!

All the best and above all

Very kind words Sir! Very much appreciated & safe/fun boating to you & yours too.

Thank you frickstyle....Practical was indeed a top priority.

Some Alterations

After considerable thought, I decided to change things up a little.
Went ahead & cut the console off while in the barn, cut the deck & pulled the fuel tank. Cut the tank down to 60 gal, added a transverse stringer and finished off the aft area the tank resided in.
Boat is back in the shop and deck is being patched as we speak.
Once done, The finished area between the console & engine may become additional storage.

With Spring right around the corner, the goal this year is more time boating...less time working on it.
Still havent gotten to a Swim Platform or Arch yet. If anyone has either and wants to donate or sell....I'm game. :drink:

Thanks! Really looking forward to getting back out to your Lake this year. Cant wait to be perched on the bow in the Bean Bags watching you folks come screaming by....we are counting the days.
Heavy work travel till April starts tomorrow. I hope the time flies, then slows down so I can button things up on my own project.

I have to say...yours is one of the best engineered and executed conversions I have seen...great job!!!

Did you ever consider leaving it set up as twin I/O's...just wondering.

Thanks Sprink...much appreciated.
No, wanted a single diesel CC from the start, and like my last project, I had the engine long before the hull.
Was workin a deal for a RTO- a D4 300/DPH, but fell thru. Then a pair of RTO 8.1's fell my way. I sold off 1) of the 8.1's and kept the 2nd drive & shield for spares.
I did make the well & engine box to fit a D4...it will happen someday. Much thought & detail attention to everything so thanks for noticing.

Probably my favorite picture...A handscrew clamp that belonged to my father......I know that got a chuckle from up above. Other than Noahs, only boat he had anything to do with belonged to the Navy and was taking him toward Korea.

HC , I have some people watching for a vacation rental for you . Will let you know if we find something . Again , really nice craftsmanship on your boat .

High Cetane 03-21-2015 07:39 PM

Home from considerable work travel to find the ingredients for a swim platform waiting for me.( well, all except for warm weather). Stumbled on a used platform.....since the shape & dimensions work, going to go this route rather than start from scratch.
Some Coosa followed me home, and I found the brackets that will allow for easy platform R&R. Once recored- should be fairly light, even with the brackets.
Probably going to go with the boarding ladder off to the side as in the pic, even if doesn't look like it belongs there (right now). I'm always very worried the girl's feet are going to find those props, so, its a solution.

Its rough now, but like everything else, will be nice when done. :D

Like a Box-o-Chocolates....Some coring, eh? Platform was in rough shape before it ever saw water & rotted out.

Turning chicken manure into chicken salad..... getting things ready for the new Coosa.

High Cetane 04-06-2015 08:40 PM

Warm weather = Progress.
Got the Coosa & glass work done, test fit the brackets, and all is well. Even with the span between the brackets, there's no flex, yet still really light.
Still room for thru hull exhaust and the brackets on the inside are out of direct view. Paint is on its way, all thats left is to make it pretty and bolt it on. Might use some trim similar to rubrail to go around the edge. We'll see.
