Likely will leave the gear boxes inside the drive housings. There is no real advantage to moving them inboard now since we can't lower the engines to where I wanted. Would only result in moving the engines forward with no real gains.
The reason to shorten the boxes, transom angle doesn't match the current extension box angle. That's placing the props deeper than we wanted. So basically just changing the face angle, but still leaving the props setting 55 inches off the back.
Here is a couple pics of an intake and fuel lines mocked up over the weekend.

No idea on the final weight yet, too many changes.. Starting out they are actually lighter than a BBC setup, However the new intake adds like 80lbs, then add an extra hundo for the billet crank and flywheel upgrades. Guessing 1500lbs engine, trans, and coolers.
Speaking of flywheels, check out these puppies that arrived today from my friend Michael at Aluma-Tech in Santa Maria, CA. I gave him the basic design and dimensions I wanted, he sends me two 68lb packages few weeks later. Now to bake the ring gears till they fit, and then off to final balance.

Also received our new fuel injectors this week from the current owner of my old Duramax boat. Andrew hooked us up with 16 fresh from Bosch LMM sticks. Then he had the tips taken out to 80% over stock. These should be good up to 1200hp, and cost more than my current truck.. lol

Several major pieces of the build are wrapping up this week. So here's some updated pics.
First, the drives and related hardware are in paint, plating, or being polished. All the aluminum pieces are primed and ready for jet black Awlgrip HS Topcoat.

The rams and line fittings also needed some love. So good time to replace those along with a few pins and bushings. This is the third boat these drives have been mounted up to, but still clean up nicely.

And speaking of mounting up, the extension boxes are cut down with the transom angle corrected. Plus we added 2 degrees of extra angle to help with the engine CG. Now to cut new transom plates and weld them back togher.

Most of powdercoating engine pieces are done. Three stage Hardin Marine seawater pumps arrived, but mounting brackets need to be modified to fit the Druamax. Luckily I know where to find a good picture of that mod on here... Oil coolers, transmission coolers, and all the main fuel system components also arrived. Which about fills up my garage workbench.

Flywheels needed a few thousandth shaved off the back side to clear the SAE adapter plates. Those are being trimmed down and balanced this week. Everything else seems to fit correctly, and new spring dampers from MDC are waiting to be bolted up.

Still a bunch of little pieces to modify before can finish mock up. Like the OEM fuel cross over line doesn't fit with with the new Banks intakes. This means ordering and bending a pre-assembled line section, which are only available from Bosch. Once bent, that needs sent back out to chrome plating to match all the others. The CMI headers also need some attention in all the bolt holes to fit correctly. Seems nothing fits out of the box...

Wrapping up the extension box modifications. Shortened up the boxes 6 inches, then added couple degrees of up angle to get the prop shaft height where Pat suggested we run these. My friend out in Texas whipped out these nice 1" aluminum transom plates on his waterjet table for us last week. One gets welded into the extension boxes, the other plate is a little transom reinforcement for the inside. We also added an extra mounting hole above and below where we expect to mount these. Since there is no vertical shaft in these WMD's, the only way to adjust shaft height is to raise or lower the drive on the transom.

Received the first set of turbos from Nelson Racing last week. Can't wait to get these puppies mounted up and on the dyno.

Also towed the boat down to Sarasota Friday to get started on some glass work. Need to fill all the old engine mount bolt holes, and widen the main stringer for strength. While that's being done, I can focus on engine plumbing and wiring harness at home.
